AF ROTC Enrollment Allocation Results

We had about 4 ICSP winners this week.

Hopefully that is a good sign.

As PIMA noted, each fiscal Year Group is managed differently, and each year is completely unrelated to any other year. They need more FY14 cadets (or have extra budget) for whatever reason -- probably b/c they undershot the # of scholarships for that Year Group. They may not need more FY13. It is similar to a situation at competitive college admissions... one year Duke might take 200 kids off the Wait List, and the next year they take 0. All based on how well they managed the admissions % a couple of months prior.

dunninla is right. This is about the AF's manpower needs.

It is also about the fact that the AF has always had a back up option...500's. In 2010 many cadets were not dis-enrolled, they became 500's and went the next yr. In 11 and 12 they were dis-enrolled.

Sequestration was not a word any of them ever heard about when meeting the SFT board.

I understand the optimism, but those in the system know that it is not only manpower needs, but also budget issue.

These packets were placed when everyone thought at the 11th hour we would not be in this place right now.

From the posts I have read by 200's it appears that the dets are following LY's position. Only putting up cadets that they thought were going to get it.

I wouldn't worry. If the numbers drop because of sequestration, I would assume the majority will become 500's and go next yr.

The thing is ROTC doesn't teach cadets about budgets, it is not uncommon to believe because they are handing out scholarships for 16 grads, that SFT is safe.

It is not about the 16's. It is about the size of the 15's class. This is a long term budget. FY 13 is being hit hard because they can't touch many things. FY14 is a different story because a lot more can be put on the plate since they have 7 months to plan for the 12 months budget. FY13 had already spent 6 months of the budget and had to cut a lot for the remaining 6 months of the budget.

Two different paths.

It wouldn't shock me if they release the results tomorrow.

There is a lot left to do, such as bag drags, medical paperwork, transportation, orders, etc.

They will want to get it all done before the cadets leave, and seeing as many schools will be starting finals in a month, it is becoming a time crunch issue every week it is delayed.

Son told me no updates at LLab this morning. He starts Easter break this afternoon and returns to campus on Tuesday so perhaps next week if notification is a F2F meeting? As Pima points out the semester is winding down...

Oh man...

I agree completely with Pima, this leaves little wiggle room for us.
Also, the suspense is killing me :rolleyes:

Hope this helps. The bag drag when DS was a huge list, so for those that feel confident you will get SFT, here is what I remember DS needed.

1. Camo tan crew t-shirts
2. White t-shirts
3. Camo socks
4. white ankle socks
5. black dress socks
6. 6 Blue pens
7. 6 mechanical pencils
8. Blue 1" binders ---I think it was 6
9. Blue spiral notebooks
10. Sunscreen
11. Razors
12. Soap
13. Shampoo
14. Shaving cream
15. Ziplock gallon bags
16. Laundry marker pen
17. Moleskin
18. Sunglasses
19. Spare pr of eye glasses if you wear them.

I am sure there were a lot more on the list, and there are specific numbers they want you take. Basically that A-3 bag will be full. The ziplock baggies are important because they want them to use them to place shampoo, soap, shaving cream,sunscreen in them for the G forbid case in transit the liquid items break.

I believe we got the moleskin at CVS. They gave 2 options, but moleskin is better quality...it is to prevent blisters from marching.

They will have to use the laundry pen to place the 1st initial of their last name and their last 4 on all of their t's, socks, underwear for laundering purposes.
~~~ I think I couldn't find one, so I just gave him a permanent sharpie.
For the medical....it is a short physical...think sports...weight, eyes, ears and current shots. Irv if your DS is coming home, check his records. DS had to get a couple of booster shots. (H1N1, menococal (sp?), tetanus, and something else). I had to go up to his college to do it because they gave only @10 days to have it done, and the student health clinic couldn't do it in time. I wouldn't do the physical part because it is an actual form the doc must sign.
FWIW, a lesson Bullet taught our DS was after the bag drag, take the blues shirts and place each one individually in a gallon zip lock bag. It stops them from wrinkling as badly. We did this with his blues pants too. Make sure to remove all of the air before sealing the zip-lock. If you fold correctly, it works in reducing wrinkles. Think those space bag commercials.:wink:
They will bring that bag home with them at the end of the yr until they go to SFT. They will also bring a sealed manila envelope to take with them. That is the hardest thing...not opening it!
As parents, buy at least 2 books of stamps because their cell phone will be confiscated within 12 hrs of arriving. DS wrote us 1x, but he came home with @ 50 letters, and he wrote back to the majority of those that wrote him.
They will get an address shortly before leaving. We sent a letter the day before he left, so that on the 1st day of mail call he had something.
They will get their cell phones back a night or two before they return...make sure they take their charger too.
Hope that helps to divert the waiting process.
I get it, trust me. I get it, because I have the tee shirt to prove that everytime DS called us, my stomach dropped thinking he was going to tell us his future, only to be told no word yet. For him it didn't end with SFT. The rated board was delayed. Base assignment report dates were delayed.
ADAF members have a cliche that is true...hurry up and wait!
The sooner you accept that as truth, the easier your path will be.
Pima,
Thanks for posting the bag drag list. My son is waiting to hear about SFT, and I remembered that you had posted this once before. I searched for it but could not find it. He is far away from home, so I want to be prepared to help in case he needs it. Thank you so much for making it handy! You really help all of us who are going through this for the first time.
That is an old list, it is only guidance. DON'T LIVE BY IT!
OBTW when they come home, they will bring the bag with them. My suggestion is to take the ABUs to the dry cleaners as soon as they get home. Request heavy starch. I sprayed them again with can spray starch over the creases. Basically they were cardboard when we re-packed them.
Same with the blues shirt.
If they aren't cardboard wrinkles will happen. That bag is probably 50 lbs. The weight after 2 months will impact the uniform.
Many posters will question if they should go to the graduation. If it is a car ride...go for it! If not, don't distress yourself. Most parents don't go.
As parents prepare yourself for silence during SFT. Prepare yourself that after the car ride home from the airport they go to their bedroom AND sleep/de-compress for 12 hrs.
Most importantly prepare yourself for the change regarding maturity. College and AFROTC changed them, but this is different.
I can't explain it, but when they come back their drive/goal/perspective is different. Their motivation is all AF, not their personal goals. They get service before self.
I have LLAB tomorrow and will post if there's any new update from my side.
My training schedule this week is extremely weird. We're in PFU's doing GLP and dorm maintenance and only have 2 hours of training than the usual 3. My guess is that something is definitely going on.
Hoping for the best for everyone else!
Please do!
Does anyone know how long after we have been selected for Field Training, when we get the actual date?
Where did you hear that? And why are you nervous, results were delayed again haha
Once we have been selected, when do we get the actual Max we are going to?
Any idea?
I'm pretty nervous as well :p and these delays aren't helping :eek:
My Commandant asked us for our preferred dates last month. he sent out the dates and wanted us to respond back asap. I don't know how the other detachments do their thing though.
Apologizing for the double post but:
Ive been hearing some weird things. Didn't want to mention this since I'm most sure that its a rumor but one of the POC's I had a meeting with earlier today mentioned that the result were already out and that there was a 94% acceptance rate this year compared to the 95%? last year.
Hmm it seems to make sense though..
I remember my Cadre saying that this years numbers were going to be better than last years.. But that was quite some time ago.. Before sequestration talk.
We had a pretty good rate last year.
Hope that rumor is true :redface:
