This time of year, how long does it take for your file to be reviewed once it is complete? What happens after it is reviewed?

Hi Xeon, thanks for the offer to provide advice on here!
If you take the CFA, and don't do well, but are otherwise very well qualified (academic/medical)... will you be allowed a chance to take it again? The reason I ask is my DS plays football and is in his heavy lineman fit right now. His application deadline is Nov 20 and his team is in the playoffs, bottom line he is not going to be able to perform well on the CFA, his pullups and run times are going to be slow. After football, given 4 weeks of fit training, I know he would do great. Right now its a pinch and I know his fit scores are going to be poor. Any advice?

DS took the October ACT again hoping to get his super-score increased. His application deadline is November 2nd. His portal stated that his application is complete and can now be placed in front of the admission board. Will the October ACT scores even matter? Is there a chance he can have those scores updated even though the application is considered complete?

@Brawny77
This is more of a 'selections' question so I can't speak to it.
@F15DOC
The CFA is one component of the application... As long as he hasn't submitted his CFA scores, he can retake the assessment. We're looking for the 'whole person' and so one part of his application will not necessarily dictate his chances completely.
@Acemom
Yes, he can keep updating the scores even after his application deadline. Please notify his admissions counselor regarding updated scores.

Well, he did submit that poor CFA as his application deadline was looming. 2 Days later he received an email/online notice requesting he retake the CFA. He was given an additional month to train... does that mean that the rest of his application is acceptable or does everyone usually get a retest?

I am just a candidate as well, but I remember someone posting that if you look in the CFA section of the instructions to candidates pdf in your portal, then you'll see a section that says that failed CFAs will automatically be rescheduled. Anecdotally, I did really poorly on my run and received a retest notification as well. I have also read at least a few people on this forum so far saying the same thing. So in my view, it seems at least relatively common.

F15doc, my DD did her CFA in October and has not been asked to repeat it. Her portal shows her application as "complete". I would venture to say that they do not offer it to everyone, only the ones they deem competitive and want to give a second chance. I would consider it a blessing, as they certainly could have just said sorry, failed. I hope your DS is healed and practicing the whole CFA before he has to retest. Aim high!

Jest, now that is perfectly clear; if you fail the first one you will automatically be requested to take it again. From what I gather, this has not been the way it used to be. Thanks for posting the official instructions.

xeon - thanks for the offer of help! what is your advice for best understanding the opportunities that cadets will have immediately following their graduation? And, how best to understand the linkage - or not - between what a student chooses to major in and their opportunities immediately following graduation? appreciate any insights you can provide.

My son has emailed in updates including his senior year activities, awards etc. He has not gotten a response from his admissions counselor. We are concerned maybe the info has not been added to his file. What should he do?

I wouldn't worry too much about it because the same has happened to me. This time of year is when they are their busiest so the best thing to do is sit back and be patient. As another applicant stressing about how close it is to March, I always try to remember that these guys get payed for keeping applicant files organized, so they will be completed in time for consideration of an appointment.

My son is an applicant for class 2020 and still waiting for the result. I guess his nomination was a principal nomination because the letter tells that he was nominated in academic for year 2016 and when it comes to academic part. Below are the informations: gpa 3.97 and rank 7 out of 776. act scores : english 27, math 29 but science is just 23. And sat scores : math 660 and english 560. For this test test scores can he has a chance to have a direct appointment. Your reply is highly appreciated.

How is your file reviewed? Does Admissions take the bundle of nominees from each MOC and fill their available positions one MOC at a time?

the triple qualified was their valedictorian candidate in their school and nominated by senator and my son was now like a kind of choice in our district.

What does Competitive mean in your application status? I am a high school Junior and got a letter designating me as an applicant but I don't quite understand how the academy designates you as competitive.
Thanks for answering questions.

The academy deems you competitive based on your standardized test scores (ACT/SAT/PSAT).
