I would love to hear from anyone that has ever attended Air Force JROTC Honors Camp. Thank you.

My instructor never made a big deal about it. I never went, but I'm betting it's just like any other AFJROTC SLS.

Thanks for the reply. My daughter was nominated and selected to attend but I had never heard of it until now. It sounds amazing and it's all expenses paid but I was hoping someone had some first-hand experience to share. Thanks so much for your input.

HC is NOT like SLS. SLS is a week (my SLS is a week at least) of ground pounding, heart racing, mind scrambling chaos barely held together by experienced cadets. I can say that with confidence because I have been on both sides of that fence as both a basic cadet and a squadron commander over 130+ cadets. In my opinion SLS (mine is Cadet Officer Leadership School held at The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina) is more of a “boot camp” and presumably academy like environment. HC is TOTALLY different. If SLS is the “boot camp” model, then HC is the ROTC model. You are not treated like an irresponsible child and there is no PT. The focus is on learning and education. Each is a little different because it is run partly by that university’s AFROTC program. My HC was very small (only 58) and was run primarily by area AFJROTC instructors. On the other hand my GC went to one almost the size of our SLS (over 200 if I recall her telling me correctly) and had a full chain of command as where mine only had 4 flights and a group commander. HC is an absolutely wonderful experience and I encourage everyone to apply. Please feel free to message me if anyone has any questions about HC.

Hey if any one has questions for Honor's camp please meial me. I attended Honors Camp in 2007 and that was my Sophmore year :shake:. So you can email me with any questions if you have now and now I am on my journey for the USAFA and USNA.

My son went to AFJROTC Honors Camp at Kirtland AF Base, New Mexico, the summer after his freshman year of high school. It IS a special honor to attend because first, you are one of only a few in your unit chosen by your instructor to apply; then there is a fairly detailed application for the program, and not all who apply are accepted. Acceptance is highly based on academic qualifications. In contrast, pretty much any JROTC cadet can attend the SLS which his/her unit is going to. Anyway, my son had a blast at Honors Camp - many engineering-type workshops, social activities, and laid-back interactions with other campers, college ROTC cadets, and adult officers. SLS was much more demanding physically and militarily and was definitely not considered as much "fun" by my son. Both probably look good on your resume if considering a Service Academy or ROTC scholarship.

by the way

I'm going to Honors Camp this summer and i know it is a great honor! Hence the name :shake:! But i dont know if you know but Honors Camp attendees have a 98% chance of recieving a 4 year ROTC scholarship. just thought i'd chime in

I'm going to the Honors Camp...maybe. I am an alternate and I haven't heard anything. What are the chances of alternates being selected to go?

Hi my name is C/Maj Smith, Cody and I am Deputy Corps Commander for the up coming school year and i was selected to attend honors camp on july 25-30 do you think you can give me some pointers to help me succed and what about pt? what is the most pt i'll be doing?

the PT isnt anything serious....last week at the honors camp I went to all we did for PT was do warming up activities(like name games or little challenged and play kick ball, so I doubt u have anthing to worry about sir.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Alternates are chosen when the original person that it meant to go cant make it....so theres a chance...but its hard to say how likely it is because it depends on whats going on in the persons planning....
However I can say that my room mate and another guy at the camp i just went to (June 6-June 11th) was an alternate. So it is possible :)
