I am an AS 200 and failed the AFOQT 2 times I only failed the math sections by a small margin. I still have an EA but am going through the waiver process does any one have advice or any news about AFOQT waivers?

I knew an incoming AS400 who was an engineering major, had made top third at FT, etc etc who failed the AFOQT twice for the verbal section. He applied for a waiver and didn't get one; now he's out of the program.

That being said, every case is different. All you can do is try for a waiver and hope for the best while preparing for the worst. He was applying for a waiver right after last summer (with the ~60% FT acceptance rate) so maybe applying now, in a good year, will yield better results?

Unfortunately, he is the only one I've met in this situation. Hopefully others will be able to provide other more promising examples.

I think there are three cadets in my Det who have taken it for their third time this past year. All engineers though.

Good luck.

Math major in out det went through SFT, failed his second attempt, and was not granted a waiver. Take that as you wish. Just my experience.

Talk to your CoC. I am going to assume that this waiver is going to go through HQ AFROTC with your CoCs rec.. It might come down to if you are a tech or non tech.

Isn't the AFOQT like the PFT. Bust one section and in essence you busted the entire thing.
~ It appears to me that it is that way.

I get that if you get a high quant., and a strong cgpa can help, but I am not sure how that will help in the long run for any cadet, and the impact will be with HQ AFROTC, especially a non tech cadet.
~ No offense my kid was non tech. Just trying to understand the current system for a defense of busting it twice, even if the quant was 75, and another portion was 15.

Like I said I am curious from a learning aspect and not trying to argue. Just wondering.

I heard some rumors that if you pass the quant and academic they will be more likely to grant a waiver. But that may have been prior to the new AFOQT.

Rumors are just that. No offense, but it won't help the OP.

Talking to the COC will help them alot more than any poster here. They will need their support for the waiver when it comes to HQ for the review.
~ If the CoC does not support them, what do you think their chances will be for a waiver?

I believe they stated that op is currently going through the waiver process. I took that to mean they had already talked to their coc, I am just providing information from the past that may be helpful.

I doubt CoC support will count for much for an AFOQT waiver, I'm sure most cadets that get put up for the waiver are supported by their CoC. If they don't support you, they generally straight up tell you your time in AFROTC is done. Cadre members aren't inclined to waste a cadet's time by stringing you along when they know your chances are zilch or wasting their time in dealing with unnecessary paperwork. The requirements for passing are 15 Verbal and 10 Quant. We had 2 cadets fail both times last year and both were told they were being let go.

BUT with them giving EA's out like candy this year, HQ might be feeling generous. OP is just going to have to wait until HQ gives their cadre an answer because all anyone can tell the OP right now is 'maybe'.
