Good morning,

I've took some time and manually compiled statistics for the 4 boards that have passed. Please note a few things:

1) The selection rate statistics may be inaccurate due to overlapping applicants from the previous board's reboards. I could take time to compare the boards to see which names are the reboards but I didn't. It'd take too much time for me to do that, so I just did it based off of awarded + non-selects + reboards per board.

2) The non-awarded statistics are just the GPA / ACT / SAT. These do NOT reflect interview score which could be a factor in their non-selection. These statistics in general only reflect academic statistics. There were a lot of students who received a scholarship with much lower scores than the average.

3) I understand a lot of people's frustration with the Type 2/7 conversion to Type 1 through certain schools such as Ivy Leagues that was released recently. However, HQ has decided that if you wanted to attend the school, the student would have applied anyways as the scholarship is not guaranteed. This is debatable but please do not spam the thread with the debate. There was a separate thread created by another user about this.

Total after 4 boards:

Selectees: 750
Total # of applicants is not accurate enough thus I cannot produce a total selection % across the 4 boards.

Thank you for the information. Much of what is out there is from previous years and by comparison there doesn't seem to be much change on GPA and test scores, however I do see a difference in the amount of selections for each board. Just a little curiosity, but what would happen to those scholarships that were converted, would it be added to the pool?

Wow, pretty stout. My kid may be fighting an uphill battle with a solid SAT but only ~3.6. Thanks for the info.

Maybe. OTOH, the reboards have both a LOWER GPA and SAT than the non-awards. Also, like AFROTCAdmissions wrote, interview rating isn't accounted for here. Elsewhere on this forum, interview is said to be relatively very important in the AFROTC scholarship process.

Well, wouldn't total applicants through four boards be 1206, made up of 750 selectees + 164 non-awarded + 292 reboards (since the reboards are by definition a cumulative number after each board)? It was my understanding from prior threads that this year reboards were considered on every subsequent board.

Don’t be discouraged! My DS had a 3.6 and 1240 SAT with a non STEM major and was still awarded a scholarship last year.

He killed the PFT and had Leadership but no sports.

He said he felt confident after the interview and I believe that can make or break anybody.

I haven’t looked at the stats from last year to compare him.

My son is on his 3rd re-board hoping and praying for positive news in the next few days or so

I'm having a dead brain moment so yes!

Two questions:

1) Will you update this with Board 5 results?

2) Are boards 6 and 7 primarily focused on reboards? I'm trying to flesh out the timeline given that applications went final a few weeks before Board 5, so I would assume that most everybody with a timely completed application should now (through Board 5) have been boarded at least once, right?

Board 5 (625 awarded):

Type 1: 3.953 GPA / 34 ACT / 1514 SAT (60 awarded total)
Type 2: 3.967 GPA / 32 ACT / N/A SAT (3 awarded total)
Type 7: 3.844 GPA / 30 ACT / 1377 SAT (562 awarded total)

Board 5 (94 non-awarded):

3.664 GPA / 29 ACT / 1340 SAT

Board 5 (TBD Reboards):

TBD, I'm still working on it and haven't received all the data yet.

Basically my son had similar stats and was also awarded a scholarship last year. He is a great interviewer, just his strong point.

Been board now 4 times over here

TYPE 7:
3.9 GPA/29 ACT/1360 SAT. Wrestling Captain, Tennis Captain, great PFE scores, lots of leadership, Eagle Scout, Boys State, NHS, and some other things. He did interview over phone but is a very good interviewer.

I know they say the interview is important (and no doubt it is) but the data (so far) seems to indicate that GPA trumps all.

Let's see what the Board 5 "reboard" numbers look like when they get posted. Keep in mind that the cumulative "not awarded" GPA/SAT combo through Board 5 is 3.68 GPA / 1324 SAT, which are both higher than the "reboard" line through Board 4, 3.63 / 1309. That suggests to me that the difference between "not awarded" and "reboard" is probably in large measure the interview.

If you compare the stats so far with the final stats last year, Type 1 and Type 2 are steady. Type 1 SAT is about 30 points higher so far (based on 137 offers) but that's the only difference. In contrast, the Type 7 numbers so far this year (3.84/1372) are both higher, .10 in GPA and 30 points in SAT (based on 939 offers). This means that if the end of year Type 7 profile numbers will end up about the same as last year (an assumption, admittedly), than the Type 7 GPA/SAT numbers going forward will have to come down.

Aside from that, it certainly looks like that they have an academic profile that they have held to for Type 1 and Type 2 so far through Board 5, which is 3.9+/1500 (Type 1) and 3.9/1400 for Type 2.

I agree on the reboard vs not awarded though there are relatively few 'not awarded' suggesting some leeway in the interview...only the really bad ones get told "no".

I'd expect a little more variation in the T1/2 GPA if the interview is as important as has been stated. Surely not every high roller is a great military interviewee are they?

Now maybe the interview is formulaic like the Army was (it seemed like from the form). He did everything, even drove himself to the AF one so I'm totally in the dark on that process or if any rubric is used.

Well, it could be that a less than stellar interview gets one knocked down a Type, as in 1 to 2, 2 to 7, 7 to no offer? Just speculating. With an 80% offer rate, it's otherwise hard to figure what the role of the interview is.

I have to say that considering all three ROTC scholarship processes, the AF's "Type" system seems to make the most economic/efficiency sense to me.
