Just to ask another few questions regarding this thread. What are the tier 1 universities and what does this label mean? Also, does receiving a AFROTC scholarship increase your chances at the these tier 1 universities.Does anyone know if AFROTC Type 2 and Type 7 scholarships will be upgraded to Type 1 for the academic year 2021-2022 for those attending Tier 1 universities?
My DD received a Type 7 scholarship this year. She did get accepted early action at one of the 16 schools that offered a upgrade to a Type 1 last year. While she has not received official email from AFROTC or anything through Wings, she did receive an email just a few days ago from the school's detachment that the University "is included on the list of 16 school where students who received a HSSP scholarship and attend [X school] your HSSP will be automatically upgraded to a Type 1." They offered to meet by zoom to answer questions students and parents may have regarding the scholarship upgrade.
So, it looks like they are upgrading the scholarships again this year. But, I don't know if it is the same 16 schools as last year. I was a little surprised she heard about the upgrade from the detachment rather than through AFROTC. Last year, her sibling also got an upgrade but was notified via email from AFROTC, not the detachment.
I'm curious if anyone else has heard from any detachments or from AFROTC directly regarding an upgrade this year.

Thanks, Nukes. This information is really helpful. My DS also received a Type 7 scholarship this year, and his top colleges are out of state. Also, he received an email from one of the colleges he applied to that they learned that Type 7 scholarship will be upgraded to 1.My DD received a Type 7 scholarship this year.
