So the big wave of TWEs came out recently, and this start making me think more about my backup plans. Yes, I have them listed, but it's about time I get more in-depth and invest as much time as I am with USAFA. I was wondering if anyone here has done ROCT while attending University of Denver, (Colorado State is the home school). Specifically, Lamont School of Music. I was recently accepted into their summer music program, so this'll be a way to get in touch with music professors and start preparing for auditions. Or if there's anyone who knows about other music schools and their ROCT home school programs I'd really appreciate it!

I don't know much about the music program, but DU is a great school in Denver. Their ROTC program is not affiliated with Colorado State, however. Rather, it is a cross town affiliation with CU in Boulder. Boulder is closer than Fort Collins (Colorado State), but it is still a pretty big commute (45 min in good traffic conditions), which would be a pain.

Can't speak to Denver, nor do I know where you live. The Crane School of Music is an excellent program at SUNY Potsdam (in NY). They have a cross-town program at Clarkson University. Their ROTC building is maybe a,15 minute walk from the Potsdam Campus. Field activities might be further. I know they train on occasion at Fort Drum, home of the 10th Mountain Division.

Google Golden Knight Battalion for more info and/or reach out to @clarksonarmy here for more info. I haven't seen much of him here lately, although he pops in once in a while. If you read the Golden Knight Blog I'm sure it has his contact info.

Edit: Never mind. Subject said AFROTC and I was addressing AROTC.

U Michigan has an excellent School of Music with one of the best teachers of cello performance in the US.
Indiana U. (Jacobs) is world-class. As to other host schools, U. Miami (Frost) has a good music school as do USC, Boston U. and U. of Colorado.

U. Rochester (Eastman) is probably the best of the lot but it's a crosstown for AFROTC. On the other hand, the host school, Rochester Institute of Technology, is very close to Eastman and would not be a difficult commute.

Other crosstowns with great music schools include Northwestern, Johns Hopkins and Vanderbilt. Columbia has Juilliard just down the road and various Boston-area schools have tie-ins to New England Conservatory. You could also take private lessons with the great cellists at the BSO.

Cleveland is also a good destination given the Cleveland Orchestra's status as one of the best in the world, but you'd have to drive to Kent State for AFROTC.

I don’t know anything about DU’s school of music, but the CU detachment in Boulder would be at least an hour drive during most times of the day. Denver traffic is almost always backed up, and DU is in the southern part of the city while Boulder is north. That being said, CU has a great detachment, and there are buses that run pretty frequently. I would definitely research how often you would have to commute and take that into consideration. Denver and Boulder are both amazing places to live and go to college!
