AFROTC Commanders Ranking

I wish I knew that information before they submitted packets. I was informed that ACT scores were not included in the ranking system until it was too late to take the AFOQT and that it was just for if you wanted a scholarship. Now I'm sitting with a lower ACT score where slots are scarce. Yikes

Every cadet competing for FT must have at least one of the three standardized tests (AFOQT, SAT, ACT) to be competitive. Since the selection algorithm for FT chooses the highest of the scores, (only the most recent AFOQT scores can be considered), detachments should strive to enter as many as possible.

There were several cadets at my det that failed the afoqt after going through field training. Imagine waiting to get selected for an EA, make it through field training and then fail the afoqt and get booted out

Wow, man you have to do really bad to fail the AFOQT. The test is basically another version of the ACT. I think I read somewhere on another forum said the baseline is 43.

Our DS didn't study and his lowest portion of the test was 88, his highest portion was a 94. I believe the overall was a 92, for 12's class it was different they gave it in the fall of your 100 yr., about 3 weeks into the semester. These kids didn't even really know what the test was about, just told to show up at the det. one Sat. a.m., most figure it was another ACT/SAT.

The TBAS OTOH is not an easy test. That test with PCSM 2.0 and it is not going to be pretty for next yrs rated board if the cadet has no flying hours.

The minimums are 15 Verbal and 10 Quantitative. The minimum rated scores between the pilot and navigator sections must be 50+ between the two, but each individual section must be at least a 25+ score.
I know for a fact there are many people that do fail the test, and some of them twice. Detachments realize that not everyone can score 90+ in all sections. My sons scores were in the top 2 they had seen, ever, in 6 years combined at that det. He thought he would bomb the pilot/nav he knows nothing about flying and ended up with 90/98. That is not the norm. But I think most people given time to study should be fine.

Our DS felt that the pilot/nav section was like the science section of the ACT.

I do agree with no flight hours he did amazing. I hope he realizes that the new PCSM is messing with many of the cadets for the rated board. It is a double whammy because for the TBAS they get extra points if they take their flight log with them to the test. They than use their flight hrs again in the PCSM scoring.

A lot of cadets have seen their scores drop by 20-30 points because they have no flying hrs. I think the min to see any increase they have to have at least 11 hrs. Some cadets are saying they need 100 to get back to their score prior to the change.
