Hey guys. I have a bunch of questions about the military that I haven't been able to find solid answers on. My brother is going to (hopefully) become a Marine this fall and he has inspired me to join the military, as well as my grandfather's service as a Green Beret. I'm now in 10th grade of high school and I have the urge to join the Air Force for security forces. I love to fly, and I'm in flight school, but I can't be a pilot for the Air Force because of my bull**** ADHD diagnosis that I was dragged into 4 years ago. Anyways, I am entirely college material, 3.87 gpa, multiple clubs, I do 3 sports, 150 service hours, go to a magnet school (my 3.87 has me ranked 95th out of 268) I'd rather join ASAP, but idk if that's the best option. My question is, for SF, should I do afrotc and join as a 2ND LT or just enlist after graduation? I like the enlisted personnel's job more, but it pays like 2x less. Sucks. Basically,
-Would I have decent chances at AFROTC Scholarships?
-Can I still earn a degree while in active duty?
-Do enlisted men get paid enough? I am good with $ but I'd like to know if 18k/yr is enough.
-Is ADHD waiverable? (No meds for 3 yrs now, show 0 symptoms)

Also, I forgot to add, my goal after service is to become a police officer or LEO of some sort. That, and to fly planes recreationally. And a college degree is important to me.

DEFINITELY go to college and commission if you get the chance.
Yes you are encouraged to work on getting your master's as an officer when you have time.
With no meds and no symptoms for that amount of time it should be okay; however, you'd have to ask dodmerb to be sure.
What are your test scores? Those are super important.

Go and take your ACT/SAT. All of the ROTC scholarships are competitive, like just as if not more competitive than selective college admissions. Also try to be a leader in your sports teams/clubs/other ECs.

Official literature regarding ADHD can be found here http://dtic.mil/whs/directives/corres/pdf/613003p.pdf (pg 46). Based off the requirements, you shouldn't have any problems regarding your ADHD.

As for money, if you want to earn big bucks, go do something else. But if you must, you can use this to figure out income http://militarypay.defense.gov/Calculators/RMC-Calculator/
A newly commissioned O-1 will make a decently comfortable living for one person, but you won't become a millionaire while active duty

History of ADHD is waiverable. Having any academic accommodation will be a negative. They will also want you to be off meds for at least 12 month. Someone else should help out. If the ADHD is waived for a commission, could it also be waived for Pilot? Would a waiver even be needed for pilot?

The stats you list would give you a solid chance at getting a scholarship. What I see missing is leadership positions. Getting captain positions on one or more of the sports would help show leadership. SAT/ACT scores are important. Study hard and get great scores.

If you are college material and you have a desire to go, go the ROTC route. Take a look at the pay differential after 5 years of service. Being an officer pays much better.
