DD is intending to do AFROTC, regardless of final board outcome for HSSP. She will graduate HS with courses that will net well over 30 credits at her college. If she takes an average load (30 credits) freshman year, would being over 60 credits affect her ability to get an ICSP offer?

Exactly how many credits will are being accepted at her university, that she'll use towards a degree before starting, and when will she be over 65 recognized credits? I ask as for some majors, not all credits will count in your path to graduate. Some courses like if you're pre-med will be repeated even if you got a 5 in AP, as med schools want to see these courses taken, not waived. If under 45 credits from HS AP/ dual etc., then she won't have earned 65 credits/ won't be beyond sophomore status until the end of her 2nd semester. If you’re already in college, you can still experience the benefits of joining Air Force ROTC. In addition to detachment-specific scholarship opportunities, freshman and sophomore students may be eligible for the In-College Scholarship Program (ICSP). Using those details it means if truly using those credits she'll be eligible for an ICSP during her first two semesters, but may age out so to speak in what would be her third and fourth semesters. The program awards scholarships based on merit during two selection phases (fall and spring semesters). Note: AFROTC Scholarships do not cover room and board.

There are limits for credits earned for reapplying to the AROTC/ NROTC National scholarship but those relate to credits earned AFTER you begin your first semester, not APs.

If I can piggyback off of this. My son had. HSSP and used it freshman yr and decided the major ( tech ) wasn’t for him so he gave it up, came home and is a walk on at the cross town unit. He was just selected for field training and was given a rated spot for his EA. Is an ICSP possible after giving up an HSSP? And is that something he has to apply for

Yes, it's possible to earn an ICSP while a college programmer freshman or sophomore. Sounds like your son is a 2nd semester sophomore at this time- the first year he was HSSP covered so not being considered for ICSP I assume, and now he's a college programmer who is moving on to field training and advanced training this summer/ next year?

No, he does not specifically have to apply for the ICSP - he will be considered.

Really he should be getting these details directly from his unit and chain of command - I'm hoping he knows this but you as the parent just have some questions (I'm a parent too and that is always fine) - just make sure your son takes the lead in understanding his options and the timing of notifications.

Not everyone on scholarship or a college programmer in AFROTC gets selected to move forward after the first two years, so congrats to your son on that. I just don't know how often ISCPs are awarded when they are in the same window rejecting some on scholarship from moving to field training. Let us know what you find out if it might help others. Good luck.

Thank you for the time you took to respond. Yes all that is correct. I am 100% hands off with all of this and this was really just for my peace of mind. I don’t like “bugging” him with these questions, I know he’ll figure it out. If I ask him I get the “ mom I know what I’m doing response lol “ which is great but I’m a very detailed person so I appreciate your response!! If I hear any info I’ll definitely update
