AFROTC Nomination

I'm currently entering my freshman year at a civilian college on an AFROTC Scholarship. I applied to USAFA last year but did not get in. I want to reapply to the Academy, but I already know of someone who would take the appointment slot in my disitrict. He is a falcon scholar. Would it still be worth it to apply with only an AFROTC Nomination which in itself is not a guarantee? I am also reapplying to USNA and USCGA.

Apply to all available nomination sources. Just because there is a falcon scholar in your district, it does not mean they will be the one slotted to your MOC. There are many cases where multiple candidates are appointed from the same district. Getting a nomination from one of your MOC gives you the best shot at appointment.

I can't speak for "certain" on this however...I don't think the Falcon Scholar will be the "Designated MOC" candidate as I know when I sat on my MOC's boards, no FFS was ever the "designated" person. They are a special category; although, I can't speak in any depth on that as I'm not an expert in that area.

Our MOC ended up with 3 Appointtes straight out of high school and 2 Falcon Scholars this year so 5 2020 Appoimtees out of his district. Not sure how this happened but it did. It never hurts to keep trying. From what I've seen, tenacity is rewarded.
