AFROTC Pilot. Am I competitive?

First, I'm so sorry if there is already a thread for this, couldn't find anything.

I was a 250 and am now a 300 going up for pilot in January from AFROTC. My stats are as follows

GPA: 3.68 (non tech)
PFA: 95.3
FTPR: SP (3/20)
PCSM: 86 (21 flight hours)
RSS:??

I'm not sure where I'm ranked. I've also heard that I'm going to be ranked against everyone else in my det going up for pilot, not my 300 class, as I'm the only 300 going for pilot. Is this true? All the others are 400s. I'm worried about commanders ranking as I'm going against people not in my class, and recent events might put me middle or bottom third. If so, am I still competitive?

*nothing illegal or bad happened, the commander probably just doesn't view me in the top 1/3 like he used to*

I've been looking for that forever, that does help a lot. I'm just wondering, and I know it's all speculation, but would my PCSM and other scores outweigh a potential bottom third? I've been top third for the entire year I've been in this program so I don't know if my commander will truly drop me so much, but I'm a pessimist and just want other opinions.

Im basically frowned upon for not telling my wingmen to act professional when they weren't.

I am glad I could point you to some appropriate statistics that would allow you to "chance me", but unfortunately I do not know enough about AFROTC to help much, but maybe I can provide some advice.
Do you really think you could drop from the top 1/3 to the bottom third that quickly. Do you really think you were being reprimanded or just getting some negative feedback so you can improve? Other than being the best cadet you can be what else can you do? Aren't all of your performance statistics already set for the board? In addition your 3.68 GPA is impressive, congratulations on that achievement.

Remember, you chose to enroll in AFROTC to serve your country as an Air Force officer, not to be a pilot. If you are blessed with the opportunity to be a pilot all the better, but be proud of your accomplishments and be proud to serve your country however you can.

Enjoy Thanksgiving break. Study hard for finals and best of luck.

OP,

You said you were a 250 and now you're a 300? Does that mean that you were a 250 and then got bumped up to the 2 year program they released this semester?

Regardless, you compete with the FY18 commissioning class in your det and this is done automatically by WINGS. Every 300 cadet who is graduating in either Fall 17, Spring 18, or Summer 18, are all grouped in the FY18 commissioning class. So you are ranked among those peers, not just those going rated.

You can easily calculate your Order of Merit score based on a best case/worst case scenario, I'll show you:

Worst Case Scenario
(10%) PFA: 95.3 = 9.53 Points
(10%) GPA: 3.68 = 9.2 Points
(15%) FT Rank: 3/20 = 13.125 Points
(40%) PCSM: 86 = 34.747 Points
(25%) RSS (Commander's Rank): 15/15 = 0.833 Points
OM = 67.436

Best Case Scenario
(10%) PFA: 95.3 = 9.53 Points
(10%) GPA: 3.68 = 9.2 Points
(15%) FT Rank: 3/20 = 13.125 Points
(40%) PCSM: 86 = 34.747 Points
(25%) RSS (Commander's Rank): 1/15 = 24.167 Points
OM = 90.769

So given both of these scenarios, you have a good shot at making pilot either way. Last year the AF picked up 345 pilots in the rated board. Later that year, that number was bumped up to 375 and an additional 30 pilots were bumped up from other rated positions. The accessions goal for the FY18 rated board is 425 pilots, that's 50 more pilot selects. This naturally would equate in a slightly less competitive pool of selects. Remember, the average select stats I posted in the thread that was referenced earlier by 5Day was from the original 345 selects. The true select numbers would be slightly less competitive after the addition of the 30 pilots to meet AF needs. Last year the average pilot select OM was around 71. The average Alt board select was around a 67. Given that there will be more pilot selects for your year, I estimate the average select OM will be closer to 68-69 for the rated board and possibly 65-66 for the alternate board. Given your worst case scenario, you're at a 67.436 which is still competitive given the statistics. If you were to be ranked number 1 in your det, you would be a shoe in for ENJJPT if that is something you're interested in. The average ENJJPT select OM score for our board (FY17) was an 87.3 OM. Below is a spreadsheet calculator I created for my detachment to help calculate your OM score:

Let me know if there are any other questions I can answer.

Wow, this helps a bunch. By 250 I just meant that's where I began the program. I'm still on the 250 track. I'm glad my PCSM is so high to offset any worst case scenario you gave me, but I would definitely be interested in ENJJPT if that was presented to me. I'm just the typical nervous pilot prospect. Thanks again!

OP, If you are concerned about your commander's ranking could you ask, through your chain of command, what you can do to be a better cadet and specifically what areas you need to work on. There has to be some mechanism to be able to get constructive criticism. You just need to find that mechanism.
