AFROTC - Reboarded?

My son made the Oct 19th board but now his account says he is eligible and will meet the next available selection board, scheduled February 22. Does this mean he was reboarded? He hasn't received any email communication, so I'm assuming he checked it before they sent the email? Disappointed, to say the least. Since the next board results don't come out till March he will have to seriously start considering plan B. Does anyone have an idea of how many are reboarded vs how many are offered the 2nd go round?

Was eligible for Oct board. Portal now says eligible for the next one. No idea what it means yet. Would rather have a decision either way since I did my best to get everything in for the first board.

Not being selected by the first board is very common. Few are selected at initial boards in any service. Those who are selected absolutely walk on water without breaking a sweat. This does not mean your application is not worthy. They want to see the applicant pool expand so they can see where you rank in it. You may be on the cusp for the first board but one of the first to receive one at a subsequent board, when far more are selected. This holds up to the final boards in each service.

One should always be pursuing plan B, C, and D. Hopefully that might include enrolling in a ROTC Program without a scholarship. DS ended up as a midshipmen at his top college and was awarded an NROTC MO scholarship during his sophomore year. Plan B can actually turn into plan A, and there are other ways to commission without ROTC.

Good luck. Remain hopeful. Work backup plans.

Thank you for the information and hope. His ultimate goal is to serve, his plan B is to broaden his school search to what schools he can afford ( with or without the scholarship). We are an active duty family so residency is an issue (we'll be moving twice in the next 2 years). Our HOR colleges are of no interest to my son. His dream schools are in Florida, but we'll be touring Mississippi state that has AFROTC, in-state tuition for military, and has already thrown him some merit aid. Semper gumby!

I believe the portal has not updated past eligible for anyone. My interviewer assured me that my application would be in the first board and mine still says eligible. I wouldn't give it too much thought unless he hasn't heard anything after the 30th, which is the expected release date for decisions on 1st board.

Mine says "Your application will meet the next available selection board, scheduled October 19. Results will be released on or about October 30." I'm not exactly sure what that means, to be honest.

Does anyone know that this could mean? Thanks

This means you application went through the board last week. On the 30th, they will let you know if you received a scholarship (and if so what type), or if your application will be reconsidered during the next board in the beginning on next year.

Makes sense, thanks. Do you know if they notify you via email or by physical mail?

I’m not sure this is correct. Something definitely is happening, my sons packet was in by early October. It stated a few days ago he was eligible for the 19 Oct board, now it’s 22Feb. So I would get either yours is not updated or you got it/didn’t get it

Ah ok. You are the first I have heard of it updating past eligible for the AFROTC. If I understood my interviewer correctly, very few will be given a definite No during this board, as most will go to the next few boards.

Normally folks are only notified if they receive a scholarship. People who will be reboarded at subsequent boards are not normally notified, except for the final board where everyone receives either a positive or negative notification. In some services this might mean waiting until mid-April for a definitive answer. Patience and working backup plans is the order of the day until then.

My son's portal officially says "Reboarded". Going to remain positive and be glad he is not eliminated ( and his DODMERB is complete and qualified). Good luck to all!

My DS received a notice in his portal this morning that he received a scholarship. He can't figure out which one though...

DD also just received AFROTC notification that she was awarded a scholarship, and same, not sure which one!

If you live in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, or Louisiana there is a Organization called the ACM (academic common market) http://www.sreb.org/page/1304/academic_common_market.html. This agreement allows students living in any of the participating states to get in-state tuition at out of state universities. Not sure about all the rules and courses, but the link I gave you gets you into the main web site. I know it works, we live in Florida and our one son is doing NROTC (non-scholarship) in New Orleans because of his major (not offered in Florida) and he gets in state tuition from Louisiana.

My DD received an email. I haven’t seen her portal or email yet so I’m not sure where she saw what type she got. Good luck !!
