Received this email tonight:

We need to inform you the Air Force ROTC scholarship board results will not be released as scheduled due to the ongoing national budget debate. Board results are expected to be released between January and March 2014. As soon as the budget has been approved the afrotc.com web site will be updated and our office will notify applicants of the results via email.

Guess we won't be hearing any results this week...

I really hate that for the young women and men waiting to find out. I know it was a great Christmas present for my DS a couple years ago. The news really does not surprise me at all though with all the reductions the Air Force is making right now.

My daughter applied for the AFROTC and NROTC program. She received her Navy Award letter last Saturday afternoon, but the AFROTC web site still has the same notification about the delay. She plan on attending Ohio State regardless of her choice, but the detachment is frustrated as the Navy notices have gone out and now the applicants are wanting to make a choice on what they are going to do. I was also told there is a chance there will not be any money budgeted for scholarships and the amount if approved will only be $6 million.

I would not be surprised if the budget is slashed, but I would be surprised it would go down to that amount. Maybe you misudenstood and what they said was by 6 million. That would be about 10%, which would mimic the DoD budget cuts. Typically, 900 scholarships are awarded, even if you use the avg cost (type 1,2 and 7) of 100k for 4 yrs. That would cut it down to 60 scholarships nationally. If they are going on annually, 20k per cadet, that would mean only 300 scholarships. Or 67% less offered. OUCH!

I am sure the AFROTC CoCs are frustrated, not only because of the late board results release, but also because this year SFT is being tweaked and the 400s meeting a RIF board. In essence, this year as a CoC every other year group has been turned upside down...2014, 2016 and 2018. At large dets that is a lot of people wanting answers.

Thanks for the reply. I received the info on $6 million is the amount to be allotted to the High School Scholarship program. The one person sent me the email from command indicating the $6 million number and there is not any word on how soon a decision will be made. Although my daughter is excited about the Navy my wife is more interested in the Air Force but that might not be an option.

Wow, only 6 million in total nationally? That seems very extreme! If this turns out to be true, then the AF will certainly lose alot of great future officers to their sister branches. Still hard to believe not one HSSP AFROTC scholarship has been awarded thus far from the national board?

Grateful, but it had been a challenge...

Wow, this delay would be very hard if we were still in the waiting room. Our DS was awarded one last year, and has had such a great experience with his ROTC detachment. It has been frustrating for him, though, to have gone the whole semester without his stipend, book costs, and full tuition paid for until the end of the term. He is the only freshman with a complete uniform. Be prepared to pay in advance for some things, and to wait for reimbursement. Real life.

Thanks for the knowledgeable insight, WAM.

My freshman DS has been paid every month, provided uniforms, tuition, book money etc. I wonder why it is so different at his school. Feeling lucky!

This wait is driving me crazy. I applied back in the beginning of August and my application still says that results will be released in December. :frown:

to T-Bone

That is really good news. I was hoping my son's experience was a fluke. It is building his character, all the waiting. He got the last piece of the uniform yesterday, so having that complete made his day.

AFROTC Application

Attempted to apply for Air Force ROTC Scholarship in DEC 13 online, had already missed the application deadline. Is it still possible to apply for Fall 14?

Unfortunately, if you missed the initial December deadline to start your application, no you cannot still apply. But you can still participate in AFROTC at the college you will be going to in the Fall if they have it and you are still interested.
