My DD just get a Type 1 AFROTC Scholarship today, winner!! :), it said, full tuition paid for a Foreign Language Major.
Somebody with this type of Scholarship to tell us more about it?, I though Type 1 was just for technical Majors, we are very happy.
Also, what about multiple Scholarship winners?, did a candidate need to choose one right away?
Thank you!

Congrats! What were you DD's qualifications like? Just want to know the standard for Type 1 candidates.

Did you download the checklist and instructions from your portal? I believe they answer these questions. Accepting this scholarship is non-binding. We were very excited to receive a Type 1 for Technical Major as well. Now we are poring through the college possibilities on the AFROTC website. Congratulations!

I think I remember reading that there are a few "high need" languages that qualify for type 1. Congrats.

Out of curiosity, did your DD list a foreign language as their top major preference? And which language? Thanks!

First off congrats.

There are some great aspects about a Type 1 scholarship. The best aspect is unlike a Type 2, it has no cap to the tuition cost. Iows, if tuition is 18K this year, but 20K next year, they will still cover the 20K.

I am not sure what you mean by multiple scholarships, but if you are talking about merit than you need to read their requirements closely. IE if they state that the merit can only be used for tuition, than you will still be short on the room and board aspect. This has occurred before, and many will contact the college to see if they will switch the wording so that they can use it for either tuition or R&B.

If you are talking about A/NROTC scholarships than as stated before you can accept all of tem since they are not binding until you show up at school in the fall.

Just curious about when you heard and if this was from second AFROTC board. I didnt think they were meeting until end of January?

Congratulations! As jkfitness asked, do you know from what board (date) this award was granted?

Great news! My son received a Foreign Language Scholarship, but a Type 7. What questions do you have? He's majoring in Russian, and has participated in the ROTC PRoject Go summer program doing language immersion overseas. You can Google Project Go to learn more. Has he selected a school yet?
