The first AFROTC scholarship board is meeting in September this year, and the deadline for everything--including the interview--is September 8. From the AFROTC site:

"For the 2017-18 scholarship cycle, there will be an Early Scholarship Board in September 2017. In order to compete and be eligible for this board, you must meet all HSSP eligibility requirements, complete the online application questionnaire, submit all required documents, complete an interview with a local AFROTC detachment, and the interview report MUST be received by Headquarters AFROTC/RRUC no later than 0900 CST on 8 September 2017. Applicants who fail to meet the 8 September 2017 deadline will compete in a board subsequent to their completed package arriving at HQ AFROTC/RRUC."

Isn't September really early for the first board? Last year, if I remember right, it wasn't until November. Why might have they decided to do this? Maybe because more or more competitive applicants are expected this year?

The scholarship application appears to be having a number of technical issues, and the latest announcement on the portal has been that the early board will be pushed back. I submitted my full package two weeks ago and still haven't received any reply, which appears to be a somewhat common occurrence among this year's applicants. The technician's awareness of the issues suggests to me that the deadline for Early Board will be later to allow for the lag in interview scheduling.

@P38Lightning thanks for the info, just checked my portal and saw the message about moving the early board. Guess we'll just have to wait for them to contact us. I might give them a call Monday just to make sure everything else is good to go.

Question:
After you filled all your app online , transcripts, SAT, etc, did you have to wait that somebody from an AFROTC College detachment calls you?, or you need to contact them?, also for the interview, do you need to have the fitness part done?, or you can have the interview first and the fitness test done few days after?, any input will help. Thank you.

@wondermom You have to have the entire online application done before the interview. All the boxes need to be checked. Once you have that ROTC HQ is supposed to contact you to get the interview scheduled.

For applicants to other branches who might be wondering, it was up to the student to contact and make arrangements for interview for Army ROTC. I didn't realize there were differences on this point.

Did you call and find out when the first Board will be for AFROTC?

@wondermom Nope, my portal was updated and now has the technical problems they were having earlier fixed. It says I should be contacted for the interview by September 14, so I'm guessing that's the new deadline for the first board.

Any update on the new date of the Early Scholarship Board for AFROTC?

does anyone know if the interviews are in person?. Or will they be following the new format, like the AFA, and interviewing via Skype?

Just got an email from AFROTC listing all the board dates as follows:

@MilitaryDad1968 I'm guessing those are the dates they expect to announce the selections.

Another question not related to dates but about AFROTC, how did you schedule your interview?, did somebody contact you? or you call a detachment in a College?, DD is waiting to be contact because her ALO tell her another ALO will perform now the interview for both ( Academy and AFROTC Scholarship), so I'm confused. Somebody there who knows about this?, looks like this year is different.

Army ROTC DS had to initiate the contact. AFROTC the detachment made the contact. Navy ROTC he was also contacted by a chief (who gave him the fitness eval and set up a skype call with an officer directly afterward with DS still sweaty and in his tee shirt and shorts).

My daughter got an email today saying she was "eligible" for the Board that meets September 18 and that she would find out on or about September 21. Our fingers are crossed.
