Though I am currently a HS senior, I will be entering college on Sophomore/Junior level. No offense taken.
Off topic, but on topic for you.
If I recall you are applying for an HSSP. You need to investigate into how this will impact you. You cannot enter AFROTC as an AS300. You have to be in AFROTC for at least 18 months as a POC. You become a POC when you return from SFT. Hence, if you enter as a jr. you will not go to SFT until your rising senior summer. 10 months out from graduation.
~ It is possible, but you would have to push graduation back to Dec to make that 18 mos. for AFROTC.
You can enter as an AS250, basically a sophomore that did not do AFROTC as a freshmen.
~ Problem here is you better hit the ground running for the SFT board because you will be going up other cadets that are 200s. IOWS, they are cadets that did their freshmen yr at the det in AFROTC. I have never read or heard of a 250 HSSP, I am sure they exist, but usually they are ICSPs, not HSSPs.
In AFROTC you will need to meet with the cadre regarding your academic progression. You may think that you will enter as a sophomore or junior regarding credits, but that does not mean you will graduate in 2 or 3 yrs. Trust me on this. Colleges are now businesses for all sakes and purposes. Those AP or Jump Start (CC) credits are all fine and nice, but most reputable colleges work the system. They will have a specific class required for your major that is only offered 1x a yr.
~ IE you have between AP and CC, 30 credits, but according to your college's academic requirements for your degree you must have. You took AP Calc, and AP Statistics, but no Quantum Math I and II. Quantum I is only offered in the spring term. That means you are now a 2nd semester sophomore at best and that class had nothing to do with your major per se at the higher levels, i.e. upperclassmen requirements.
I am not trying to be Debbie Downer, but I am going to state that all my yrs here, it has been littered with posters that got an HSSP and entered with 30 credits, just like my DS. However, because of their major they still walked out 4 yrs later because of their school. DS graduated with not only a dual major, a minor and a core.
Back on topic,
Any SFT candidate (AS200/250) in this scenario needs to talk to their cadre with their concerns.
Any good det. the CoC or at least the PMS, will sit down with every cadet at the end of each semester regarding not only how they are doing in AFROTC, but also their academic progression. IE you are academically on track to graduate. This also happens in the ADAF world, you will get an OPR annually, even if you are not up for promotion.
~ As a cadet up for SFT this is your time to ask the what IF question. IF your FRIEND is too afraid to ask that question, I think they should re-think this way of life.
~~ Not trying to be mean, but ROTC exists to train leaders. Leaders ask questions to determine the right course of action.
Finally, as an AS200/250 up for SFT not know? I know not only bc of my DS, but my DH too. They were cadets when SFT was hard, less than 60% selected. 1 was scholarship, the other not. Their 200 yr it was all about preparing for SFT.
If this is for a friend, the best advice is to tell them talk to the cadre. If it is a great det. they will have POCs that are mentors to GMCs. Have them talk to their POC.
Again, not trying to be mean, rude or condescending. Just saying if this is for a friend in AFROTC, they really need to talk to their CoC ASAP.
