My son won a type 7 which he converted to a 3 year type 2. He only receives his stipend starting his sophomore year, correct? Are there any stipends/reimbursements his first year? Thanks!

He will not receive anything until his sophomore yr. He is not considered "contracted" like a type 7 4 yr. In essence, he is in the AFROTC program, but has yet to activate his scholarship.

1 thing I impress on everyone when it comes to converting the type 7 to a type 2. When did he do his DoDMERB? Many AFROTC cadets also applied for USAFA. The DoDMERB is only valid for 2 yrs. If your DS applied for USAFA and did his DoDMERB in Aug. of his rising senior yr., and now at a college where they start school in Sept., his exam will no longer be valid when he goes to activate next yr., since it is not in that 2 yr window. If he did it in Jan of his sr yr than he will be good to go for activating the scholarship.

Thanks! That is what I thought, but I was just verifying. Makes sense.
As for DoDMERB, he just did that this past spring, so he's good.
Thanks for your help!
