Hello,
I am a cadet 4th class in his first year of AFROTC. I am a contracted cadet, awarded a type 1 scholarship. I wake up on Mondays, i wake up motivated for PT, Tuesdays im excited for Lead Lab , wednesday, im excited for pt and friday im excited for gmc classes. The only problem is im only excited for my rotc classes, i feel like the only reason i went ROTC and college as a whole is because others expected it of me. I have been wondering ever since school started, if as a contracted cadet there is a way i can become active duty enlisted instead of continuing through college?

Yes, there is a way. As a freshman, you can drop out of college, relinquish your ROTC scholarship with no further obligation, head to the local recruiting office and enlist. That’s the mechanical part. Will leave it to others to advise whether this is the right thing for you to do. Best wishes and thank you for choosing to serve our country, one way or another.

The career paths of enlisted airmen and officers are dramatically different. Please make sure you assess your long term goals before making any decisions.

You are just a month into school and are in an environment very different than you are probably used to. I would encourage you to commit to giving college/ROTC your all through the end of your freshman year and then reassess which path you should pursue. But it is your decision.

Good luck and thank you for your desire to serve.

Thanks for the advice, all these plans are in the early stages of early stages, I want to wait until the end of the semester, to see if I feel the same way.

Don't just do a semester... give it a year. I'm confident you won't see any leadership responsibilities until your second semester at the earliest. Since being an officer is all about leadership you really can't assess it vs enlisted.

Give it a year! There are many advantages to being an officer that unfortunately enlisted cannot get.
