Hello Everyone,

I know that this topic is rather beaten to death, but I've got a couple questions about going AFROTC rather than NROTC.

I have applied for NROTC (still waiting to hear back).
If I do not get the scholarship, then I plan on joining either an AFROTC or NROTC unit as a college program student.
I did not apply for an AFROTC scholarship.

I know that in NROTC, I must be a Midshipman on Advanced standing or Scholarship in order to commission, but how does it work for AFROTC?

If I join as a college programmer and complete field training, will I be eligible to commission?

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions.

Short answer: yes.

If you complete field training with AFROTC, you will receive an enrollment allocation (EA), that more or less guarantees you the opportunity to commission.

In AF Rotc, if you do well the first two years, you will be invited to Field Training (now called Lead) during the summer between Sophmore and Junior year. If you pass that and do well the last two year, you commission. As for being invited to Field Training, I think during the last two years, everyone in my son's detachment was invited. Hasnt always been the case where it could be 70% or so. Lets put it this way, as long as you put the effort, get decent grades, get involved and dont screw up and stay healthy, you will commission
