Is it hard to gain a 3 year AFROTC scholarship if I don't major in a technical major , but perform very well in ROTC my freshman year . I am looking at the SJSU SDSU and Sac State AFROTC.

In this day and age of budget cuts, including the fact that they will be closing dozens of units, I would say do not enter from a financial aspect of receiving one to pay for the remaining 3 yrs. There just is too much uncertainty.

This yr they brought back the IS and many posters did receive the 3 yr., but remember they will be looking at your SAT/ACT too, so if you have a low SAT/ACT I would suggest you take it now this spring so you can increase your chances.

Remember the AFROTC cadets that did not get HS scholarship will try again next yr too.

Everything matters, and if you strive for 110% 100% of the time your chances will increase, but always, always have a strong Plan B in place at all times.

My son was told he needs a 30 on ACT to be competitive. He got 27 but only took it once. He may take it again. But we were also told at AFROTC orientation that even with 30, funds are very limited so odds, any of the 4 years, would be small. Most go to HS students who commit to medical or high tech careers like engineering. He is going into Information Assurance but isn't considered one of the high tech areas. He would be able to get he stipend his Jr and Sr years, though

Kammies- my son did not have 30 composite on act and he received both Navy and AFROTC scholarships. He math score was a 30 and I know they weight the math more than the other areas. All other aspects of applications were extremely strong ( high GPA,leadership, fitness test, EC, excellent interview) my point is that even thought ACT scores are important, it is not the only deciding factor.

For what it's worth, I got a 31 and I did not revieve the AFROTC scholarship.

For IS AFROTC it will be a board.

GPA
SAT/ACT
PF
CC

Each portion will have a %. Bust one and it is all over.

You can gave the top points for academics, but low points for PF and it is all over.

WHOLE CANDIDATE, that is what you need to be. Every portion matters.

Tech with a 34 ACT, but a 85 PF score is on an uphill battle. 31 with a 95 different story.
