After USMMA Appointment Acceptance - Next Steps

Not going to address the specifics of what particular items may or may not be acceptable for Indoc, since things have changed much since my day. However, the comment about being a rule follower is worth commenting on. To survive, early on, especially, it is important to pay attention to the rules. As one's time at the Academy progresses, one can then figure out which rules are more important to follow than others. . . and ways to manipulate the rules to one's advantage, too. By the time of my First Class year, there were very few rules that I followed strictly, and was never place on report or had any particular disciplinary actions or restrictions. . . but I was sure "over the wall" quite a bit and partook in other shenanigans, too. . . .

I know that pretty much everything is uncertain during this pandemic time.... However, in trying to plan ahead I'm wondering if a passport is mandatory for Indoc? My DS passport is expired and we had an appointment scheduled for tomorrow but the Dept. of State website states "Due to public health measures to limit the spread of COVID-19, effective March 20, 2020, we are only able to offer service for customers with a qualified life-or-death emergency and who need a passport for immediate international travel within 72 hours." I tried calling the post-office where we are scheduled but it just rings "busy" :( I'm guessing others may be in the same situation and exceptions might need to be made - but wondering if this is typically a requirement for USMMA at Indoc time?

It is BEST to have the passport before Indoc, but not absolutely necessary. If it isn't possible to get it ahead of time, I do know of several plebes who got theirs in NY during 4/C year. They do need to get it, naturally, before they go out for their first sailing.

My DS went in and applied for TWIC card and passport on Tuesday. Things are changing by the hour so I am glad we got in. I would think that delays are to be expected with this pandemic. I did read that they just have passport or proof of application for it
