Age Limit for Prep/Direct

Hey everyone,

So I decided to re-apply to USAFA. I'm prior Enlisted and last year I guess you can say that made it pretty far into the selection process.
-Nominated by Squadron Commander, Group Commander and WING commander Class of 93'
-Selected for the DVP to visit USAFA for a week
And I found out I wasn't selected in the last leg of acceptances.

Anyways, we just got a new letter from Gen. welsh about applying and im wondering if I can still apply for the Prep school and Direct If im 22? It says "No older than 23 years of age on 1 July 2015 for entry to USAFA or no Older than 22 years of age on 1 July 2015 for entry to the Prep. School" does that mean you can be 22 and go to the prep school? My birthday is on july 3 1992 so technically from what I'm reading, I'll still be eligible correct?

Any help for this matter will be appreciated. I've tried to ask a few sources and I guess the way it's worded out is giving them different opinions. Thanks!

You're eligible for direct entry but not for the prep school. Its not automatic that prior enlisted must go to prep school. Many go direct in. If you don't get a direct appointment, your chances are then over. If you still want to get commissioned, ypid have to look at ROTC or OCS. But from what you've written, you have one more shot at an appointment to the academy with a direct appointment.

CC,

Is the following line incorrect?

no Older than 22 years of age on 1 July 2015 for entry to the Prep. School

If that is correct, then I'm confused why he wouldn't be eligible for the Prep school. Maybe I'm not reading it correctly but wouldn't he still be 22 on July 1, 2015 (Turns 23 on July 3)? If that is the case I'd think that the he still could go into the Prep school.

You are correct. He is eligible for both prep and direct entry.

Yeah that's what I'm getting from it and that is exactly what the letter from Gen. Welsh and CMSgt Cody says.
The wording for the age limit is so confusing lol

JSantos,
Seek guidance from admissions. A quick google search to the AF Academy website describes it differently than the letter you received.

Admissions Requirements
All Cadet Candidates
Prospective cadet candidates must meet these eligibility requirements:

Be at least seventeen and not have passed their twenty-second birthday by 1 July of the year they enter the Prep School

You have already passed your 22nd Birthday.

Hope it does work out.

Guess I misread. I read it as he is 22 and will be 23 on July 3 , 2015. If so, then he would be 22 yrs, 11 months and 28ish days. Thus, too old for prep. But if he will be 22 on July 3, 2015, then yes, he's eligible for both.

P.s. When they say not older than 22 yrs, you must remember that you are only 22 years old for 1 day. Then you are more than 22 years old.
