My son has been planning to apply for the Air Force Academy for a long time. When he graduates from high school he will be 17. His birthday is not until the first part of August. Is that going to be a problem?
Thanks

Won't be a problem, your son only has to be 17 by July 1st the year he is entering.

A quick google search answers this, but yes he will be totally fine. If I am fortunate enough to receive an appointment next year, I'll be 17 going in. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than I can answer this fully, but my understanding is that a parent has to sign over custody or permission if the cadet is 17 when they report.

Yes, if you want to put it that way. DH had to have his parents do the same back in '75. The same is (was?) true for enlisting in the service. Has something to do with signing a legally binding contract before 18, being a legal adult.
