AIM Acceptance?

My son was waitlisted too, was also wondering if it’s a polite decline. We are PCSing from Korea to Japan this summer - between that and COVID quarantine issues coming back to Asia, it would have been difficult to work out his attendance anyway. But, I really wanted him to be able to see if it’s a good fit for him and vice versa - he won’t have the chance to attend any of the other programs offered. Good luck to the kids who go and I hope it still happens.

My DD went online last night and found she got in. She's pretty stoked but I am urging caution until more gets announced, plus she's really only got eight weeks to get back in shape, as the loss of her club sport and her spring season have left her pretty inert the past month or more. She remains excited. :bounce:

My DS's friend was waitlisted in 2017 but he did get a spot. I think a lot of spots opened up that year. So fingers crossed!

My son was waitlisted. Is everyone who is rejected waitlisted? Just curious to know if this is just a nice way to reject an applicant.

As @Bash On mentioned, there is a difference between being waitlisted and rejected. It is not just a polite no, there is an opportunity for your DSs to still be accepted to the program based on the acceptance yield for those offered spots.

Please do not be too disheartened, I can attest that applicants are accepted to incoming classes who do not see CGA until they step foot on base on Day One. Yes, it is a great opportunity to see if CGA is a fit for you, but it is not the only opportunity.

As I mentioned in another thread, I am hopeful that Virtual Academy Experience Programs (AEPs) will be incorporated more into Admission's outreach plan now that COVID-19 has shown that we can't rely on in-person programs alone to expose potential applicants to what CGA has to offer. In fact, I'll reach out to Admissions and see if additional virtual programs are in the works.

Has anyone checked under their group invitations? My DD doesn't show. Does she have to wait until the 18th for it to be an option to select?
That was what I was coming here to ask. I am assuming it either isn’t loaded yet or we have to select on the 18th FCFS. I hope the seminar happens for all. Also to echo “Bash On” above, if you or your son/daughter wasn’t selected, don’t read much into it. So many things get factored in that may not be in play when you apply to the academy. My daughter decided on Navy too late to apply to summer seminar there, but did everything other than camp out to get an invitation to Candidate Visitation Weekend and never got it. She got in, did well, and is still active duty (graduated in 09) and loves her mission.

My son was waitlisted for AIM last summer and did not get off waitlist. He was invited to the cadet for a day overnight in the fall which was a great chance to stay with a cadet, go to a couple classes and a band rehearsal. They had sessions with admissions including parents and a chance to take PFT for their application. If they offer this program in the fall, I highly recommend it. My son will be class of 2024.

Daughter got in! Any advice for her in terms of preparing for AIM, she would appreciate. She's very excited!
LOTS of upper body workouts and run run run. Especially on hills. The hard part about running for me was the sounding off during the running so just make sure you build up a good stamina. I went this past summer it was great. Also don't go crazy on bringing bathroom products or anything like that. If you could find a three in one bottle of shampoo conditioner and body wash I'd highly reccomend- it would save a lot of time.

Yay, I got accepted too! I'm still hesitant about celebrating though until May 18th when they will tell us if AIM is really going to happen. At least I will be motivated to exercise though, I have to admit I have been slacking a little.

My DS, I and my wife attended a USCGA Bear's Day this past December. While there, the question of who gets into AIM came up. According to USCGA, they place all the qualified AIM candidates in one pool, and then randomly select who gets in. So if you are on the waitlist, you are still in the game! I don't believe being put on the waitlist is by any means a rejection. By the way, my DS got waitlisted.

My DS is waitlisted too. Thank you @md61 for your encouraging words regarding the USCGA selection process, by this it means that my DS was viewed as a qualified candidate to attend the AIM program :) We'll take that as a positive ....

AIM is a marketing / outreach tool, much like all of the SA summer programs, so while there is surely a lot of randomness at some point, I assume there is a lot of selectivity as well. That doesn't necessarily mean the best candidates, but rather candidates they might like to see apply (unpresented locations, groups, etc.). I know coaches have a say on who they would like to come to AIM, so it's not all random as suggested.
Bottom line is that if your DS/DD gets in, great; if waitlisted, fingers crossed; and if not accepted, no big deal. Good luck to everyone on the 18 month assault to earn an appointment that has already begun.

DS was also waitlisted. Congrats to all who were accepted and to any who make it off the waitlist in the next month.

DS was accepted into the AIM program, but I feel like we are all on the waiting list. Just never know how this is going to play out. 🙏 that it still happens. Congrats and good luck to all!!

My DD was accepted today. Someone mentioned that coaches have a say in the decision. That may be true but her coach went out of the way to point out this was an Academy decision and not athletic-driven.

What coach are you referring to? The USCGA coach for a sport she wants to play, or her current HS coach? One is currently "her" coach and one is possibly going to be a coach if she is accepted to USCGA and makes the team, correct?

Referring to the USCGA coach that is recruiting her. I was just pointing out that even though she is being recruited, the AIM conversation (and potential acceptance) was positioned more as based on her merits as viewed by the CGA and not as the coach has x number of free slots.

The email says the link doesn't open until the 18th. I assume they will have made decisions by then whether and in what form AIM will move forward. Mine got accepted, we're super hopeful it goes forward. She will go first session.

Thanks... she noticed the date upon further inspection.
