AIM Acceptance?

My DS was accepted. He plans to attend the first week and then attend a USCGA soccer ID clinic the Saturday after Week 1. He's very excited for the opportunity and we hope the program is able to take place.

How did you learn of the soccer id clinic? My son would be interested in this as well.

Referring to the USCGA coach that is recruiting her. I was just pointing out that even though she is being recruited, the AIM conversation (and potential acceptance) was positioned more as based on her merits as viewed by the CGA and not as the coach has x number of free slots.
The coaches do have x number of slots,, so consider that information in your daughters recruiting and where she stands.

We learned about the soccer ID clinic directly from the coach. I would contact the coach and express your interest.

AIM is going virtual. Anyone know what the affect on the waitlist will be, if any?
There was a "town hall meeting" on 18MAY and I don't recall them mentioning anything about the affect on the waitlist. I originally thought that they would open it up to more folks since virtual is a bit easier logistically (sleeping, eating, etc.); however, it seemed like they wanted to keep the numbers about the same as normal (250/session x 3 sessions) to allow AIMsters to have the ability to interact with each other and Cadre, etc. Who knows how many will choose not to attend since it's virtual.

As @Bash On mentioned, there is a difference between being waitlisted and rejected. It is not just a polite no, there is an opportunity for your DSs to still be accepted to the program based on the acceptance yield for those offered spots.

Please do not be too disheartened, I can attest that applicants are accepted to incoming classes who do not see CGA until they step foot on base on Day One. Yes, it is a great opportunity to see if CGA is a fit for you, but it is not the only opportunity.

As I mentioned in another thread, I am hopeful that Virtual Academy Experience Programs (AEPs) will be incorporated more into Admission's outreach plan now that COVID-19 has shown that we can't rely on in-person programs alone to expose potential applicants to what CGA has to offer. In fact, I'll reach out to Admissions and see if additional virtual programs are in the works.

Mid May saw USCGA cancel the on-base version of Project AIM and was working on a virtual version of it. We are sorry for the disappointment this year's juniors will feel but with travel and COVID-19 problems it seems to be the prudent thing to do.

All that uncertainty... My DS is on the AIM waitlist, heard nothing so far as of today, June 1st. Does it mean he’s out or should he wait, reach out? Thoughts? Thank you!

I would say at this point hold on, those in the scholar program don’t even have a confirmed report date yet. So I think there is hope. The staff I’m sure have been working very hard on the logistics off all the summer activity at the academy.

Folks, any other applicants who are waitlisted for AIM haven’t gotten an update yet? The deadline stated was June 7, the Bear Den didn’t change, still waitlisted, it says do not call... There are some things pending in July for DS, not sure if is wise to keep waiting or assume “the ship has sailed”?

I would give it a bit of time yet. Scholars were only notified yesterday of the arrangements for them to report to the Academy. Now that has been done I am sure the focus will be on items such as AIM.

Thank you, we shall wait then.

My son who was initially waitlisted for AIM got an email yesterday saying he is now selected. He was instructed to choose a date and register/pay by June 20. Since we are a military family stationed in Asia, we were especially glad to see that one of the weeks has adjusted times to accommodate those who are not CONUS located.

Just wanted to pass along that there is movement on the waitlist.

Any AIM updates for anyone? My DD has been accepted and registered but havent received much updates about anything (how to access, etc.) Has there been any movement for anyone? Whether its people taken off the waitlist or emails exchanged about how AIM is going to happen just to know if the gears are turning. Also does anyone know if our participants will be able to meet fellow AIMsters? I think it would be beneficial for AIMsters to get to know each other like previous years. Thanks.
