On the application it asks "Diagnosed with AND/OR taking medication for ADD/ADHD or mental health?" I am having trouble helping my DS answer that question. He was diagnosed as a child and took meds. But is no longer taking meds and at the time he went off his pediatrician said he doesn't even have any symptoms and would no longer even qualify for a diagnosis. He never had any school or testing accommodations. I wish it said "currently diagnosed" or "have ever been diagnosed." Should he reach out to his AO and ask him directly? He wants to be honest through the process and knows he will need a waiver since he has a previous diagnosis.

If they did have a diagnosis it will be in the medical records. I wouldn't recommend omitting that information, but I'm not sure you would get caught either. Just a not that if you apply to USCGA they will as for access to your child's medical records.

Take the long view. If your son eventually does the full application for USCGA, the other SAs, or ROTC, then he will be going through the DoDMERB portion of the process, which has a detailed medical history and evaluation process. It will come out then, and he will go through the process of supplying provider records showing his current status, and documentation he didn’t need the medication any longer, the Rx was stopped and the Dx no longer applies. If you don’t have that officially in his record now, you should get it, so he can be proactive in the DoDMERB process.

If there is no room to add a note amplifying a positive response, then I would pause and your son should call the AO to ensure he understands the question.

Thank you for your replies. It is DS's goal to serve. With SAs as plan A and ROTC plan B that is why he wants to be completely transparent from the start. (We do have all the information officially in his medical record for the reasons mentioned.) The way the question was worded on the SLE application did make It a clear "yes" answer. He has found it fascinating how each of the applications has been so different. He will go ahead and reach out to the AO officer before submitting this one.
