I was all set to go to the Summer Leaders Seminar at West Point but then I went to a Congressional Academy Day and found out about Coast Guard Academy and decided to try for there instead. If I was accepted to the West Point one is it likely I'll get in to AIM too? Also how long should the personal statements be on the app?

Not necessarily. I got into NASS and got rejected from AIM. You can't really measure each program against eachother in terms of difficulty. I did about a page and one half for the pers. statement. I think there was a limit. Also look into Boys/Girls State. INVALUABLE experience.

Has anyone received a letter of acceptance to AIM yet?

Still taking applications until 6 April. They just extened the deadline. Probably won't hear until after the deadline.

    Based upon previous years:
Unlike the other academies USCGA does not do a rolling admissions for their AIM program. After the deadline every application will be reviewed and everybody finds out yes or no in a relatively short window.

All AIM applications are reviewed during April and then all selection notifications are released at the same time...no later than mid-May. We're doing online notification this year, so I think you'll get an e-mail letting you know the decision is ready and then you'll view it by logging in to your AIM application activity page.

Why did they extend the deadline to April 6th?

They extended the deadline last year also. I recall it was stated on here that they were still busy evaluating candidates for the class of 2016 so there was no reason not to give a few more days because they weren't ready to start evaluating AIM candidates.

Thanks for the info! Any idea on how many people are in each session of AIM?

    From USCGA site:
There are 3 sessions so must be 150-180 per session. My son didn't get into AIM last year so I don't have anymore insight.

    AIM question

Please welcome a new poster! Can't answer your AIM notification question...but I do have a question about AIM. I noticed the age requirement now includes a MAX age of 17. My son turns 18 on Jun 30th after his Junior year and currently, that will make him ineligible. The other service academies do not have a max age for high school Seniors-to-be and their Summer programs.

Does anyone know why this changed for AIM and if the policy will be revisited for future years? 2013 and beyond. ?

All the Best...USAFA grad...its all worth the waiting!

DD emailed admissions and was told she could check her application on May 15 for online results.
