AIM Decisions Released

Goes both ways. 2 years ago son was rejected for AIM. At the time he was disappointed as Coast Guard was 1st choice. He ended up getting an appointment in the very first wave of EA acceptances. By that time West Point had become number 1 and he is there now wrapping up yuk year.

I was rejected... I actually almost punched a hole through my classroom wall I was so mad, but good luck to those who are waitlisted and those who were accepted I wish you the best and I hope you really want this as bad as I do.
You mind sharing your numbers, gpa act/pre-act, Leadership etc...trying to figure out what n who gets accepted or turn down.
Yes of course, I am a 4 year varsity letter winner and team captain and started up my own clubs and am apart of a few other clubs I have over 200 hours of service, I had not gotten my ACT Scores back in time so I only put my SAT which is a 1000 I understand thats kind of low but for the school I'm at its considered average my gpa is a 3.7 I also felt as if for the essays I really poured my heart into them, you know, and I have no medical issues "knock on wood" and I have job expeirence as well which I will be doing this summer. Personally I really think its unfair that the kids who got accepted into other academy programs got accepted for Aim as well, where I know I wanted CG for the longest time and I even told them I had not applied to other SA's programs because CGA is my top choice and I am committed where as other kids just want to have a feel for it, I'm there to be in it. I'm sorry I may sound rude I'm just flustered,

Please remember that AIM selections are based on different goals than USCGA appointments and use different criteria.

My recommendation is to dust yourself off and remove the chip from your shoulder. Put your focus on doing everything possible strengthen your application package - study and improve your ACT and/or SAT, train for the PFE, and keep building your leadership experience.

Did not take it too hard. Got in late from play practice and has APUSH final tomorrow.

OK, those of you who didn't get into AIM, step back and take a breath. This year's crop of qualified applicants was almost four times that of the number of slots available. There is a real lottery among the qualified applicants.

My son applied to AIM, and got his friend to apply. My son didn't get in, but the friend did. Bummer. Friend went to USNA anyway. My son went to CFAD. Loved it. It gives you a real feel for what Academy life is like, as opposed to AIM, which is more similar to Swab Summer.

Short story, my son was accepted to USCGA, even though he didn't get into AIM. He graduated last spring.

Thank you! Thar really puts it into perspective. I realize AIM is a good picture of swab summer, which in reality isn’t as long as the whole USCGA experience. My DS is in USNASS and is going the the JLAB acamdemic bowl and if he doesn’t get off the waitlist is planning to spend the time working on getting a jump start on his Senior English class and studying for 1 final SAT. It’s good advice to focus on what you can control and not get bitter about what didn’t happen.

With all that said, this mom spent some time pouting yesterday before the kids got out of school. Good luck everyone, may your path lead you in the right direction for you!

DD: AIM - Accepted, Session 2. SLE - Accepted, Session 2. NASS - wait-listed.

I want to echo the comments of all the people above who said don't get disheartened. DD was waitlisted for AIM last year. We were really soured by it and considered it the end of the road for us. Several people explained the vast disparity between slots and qualified applicants, like Auxnoob above, and encourage her to go to CFAD. She did, and it cemented CGA as her first choice. She applied EA and was accepted in late November just before Thanksgiving. Moral of the story, being waitlisted for AIM doesn't mean you aren't a strong candidate for admission. Focus on what you can control/improve, and keep working through the process. A little over 6 months from now you may find yourself being thankful for a CGA appointment while you enjoy that turkey and stuffing meal.

DS#2 is going NASS (session 1), SLE (2), AIM (1) and Marine character leadership in Quantico, Va. who’s joining him? We are driving him to Annapolis (both ways) dropping him off to West Point.. he had to fly back to Florida to make it to Boys State midnight the next day. In July AIM then Quantico is fully free including travel from and to Quantico. Only paying my DS one way from Quantico to Orlando. My DS#1 is your DD’s AIM Cadre;)

DS # 2, NASS session 1, SLE session 2, initially waitlisted for AFSS but given a spot in week 1. That conflicted with SLE so he's not going. But we have been there a lot and will be there in 3 weeks for big sisters graduation :). While there big brother will give him another tour. Also waitlisted for AIM, is really hoping to get a spot.
Stats, 690V 790M, 33 ACT, NHS VP, year-round part-time job, two sport athlete, just to hit the high points.

believe me we know how you feeling right now!! DS1 had been preparing for SA since 7 th grade. The journey was hard and the waiting was harder...he is in class of 2020 at CGA. DS2 is following...he is accepted to AIM1 and really only like CGA but will also apply at MMA ..you shld check it out since most nominations are open now. Prep for your next SAT n ACT and push harder to higher your gpa. DS1 act 32 sat 1700 4.7gpa 2varsity sports part time job: swim coach n life guard, 500 community service, an Eagle Scout, etc. last semester had 25 credit hours classes at CGA only sleep 3 hrs the whole semester and on Fridays has a choice to take a nap or eat dinner. He choose to naps if he can. 19-17 credits the least you will have ...in top of military duty, room n uniform inspection, parade, formal, cumminity service, sport, club, travels from sport or club... lists go on! I hope you get my point because it is very hard to get there and it’s still hard when your there!

What is CFAD?

I am attending USAFA Summer Seminar Session June 11-15 and I am attending AIM July 15-20. I was rejected for NASS and West Point SLE.

It stings when you are rejected and I used it as motivation on my training. I am going to Arkansas Girls State, as well as University of Arkansas Track Camp. I am getting my mile time down below 7:30 and trying to get my pull ups more than 5 for CFA. Keep motivated and pushing forward!
Can you share your stats?

I hope so too. Mine will be flying in for NASS then taking the train to NY. I have family there and they will get him to SLE. When his older brother did this two years ago he did SLE then NASS and there were several that were traveling between the two and they seemed to find each other.
