I am an Air Force Academy candidate and just realized that the academy recruited for cross country. My average 5K time is about 19:24, with a few races better and a few worse. I know this is a very specific topic but does anyone know the difficulty of being recruited for cross country and the times they might be looking for? Thanks

I would check the USAFA Athletic website and review the results of past meets and see where their runners' times are. That will be the best indication if you are recruitable. You can also fill out the recruiting questionnaire on the website or send an email to the coach. Depending on what year in high you are in will determine if he can contact you back - must follow NCAA rules on recruiting.

My daughter a C2C runs cross country and track. I agree with the previous posters:smile:, fill out the athletic questionaire. If you run track include those times also. My daughter did and the coach contacted her soon after. Even if you are not recruited, but go to USAFA there is opportunity to "walk-on."

Other options

My C4C decided not to go the IC route his first year, even with his 5k XC times were in the low 16s, but joined the Marathon Club. As of now (pending any GOV shutdown issue), we will see him the weekend of Oct. 25th, to run in the Marine Corps Marathon in DC. So there are other options than IC.

Our C4C son ran in the 17's for 5k but wasn't really competitive for IC cross-country. That background was great preparation for making it through Beast though. He now runs intramural X-C and joined the triathlon team. He has a good friend in his Squadron who is a C4C on the cross-country team - he ran between 15:30 and 16:00 for 5k in high school. That may be indicative of a competitive IC time. Even if you don't run IC though, cross-country lays a great foundation for so many aspects of the Academy! Good luck!
