Thanks to all of you for your encouragement and support and for sharing your stories.
I would love to hear from any cadets who have time to post or PM me and offer any advice.
I'm NOT having a fun senior year, too many immature kids full of drama who just want to go to parties and don't care at all about their futures. I don't feel like I fit in.
If the party life is what it takes to fit in, I won't do it. But I will miss my family for sure.
Pima - I am worried about doing stunts in cheerleading, I wonder if I should avoid them to be on the safe side?
damevaako - Did you finish your application? Feel free to PM me, we can encourage each other!
Some of you asked about stats, I hope its ok to share them and hope it can help. I have an extremely busy schedule (I'd be very bored if I didn't!!!) so I will try not to be boring and just narrow it down to the highlights:
My GPA as calulated by USAFA is 4.01...(I don't remember the last number), Rank is #2/70. ACT scores are all good, in the 30's except math is not impressive. I was really worried about my application because of that but it goes to show they do look at your whole person.
I always took every AP class I could and have taken "dual credit" college courses since last year. I'm taking all the challenging course that are available this year.
CFA: I don't have my scores with me but on some events I did very well and got to or near the max and some are closer to average. I did the average on the flexed arm hang (got to work on those pull ups!!!!!)
I attended the USAFA Summer Seminar, loved it!!! Over the summer I went to alot of leadership events, one was NSLC, the others I had to compete for the opportunity to go.
As for athletics I haven't played alot of "sports" in High School. But I have always been a cheerleader and I am also a Certified Fitness Instructor. That is what I do for my after school job, teach kickboxing and other exercise. My boss wrote USAFA a letter about how my job is both leadership and athletic. I got certified when I was younger b/c my parents always make us work to pay for our own gas and I really didn't think I would like the kind of after school jobs my sisters had.
I have officer positions in several school clubs and in one community club. When I was 15 I started my own organization that helps the poor, I have raised $20,000 and its been nationally recognized/awarded. I'm still working to raise as much as I can before I graduate. My organization is the result of knowing personally what it is to do without, (hard times in the past, long story) so I have a big passion for service; it's been the highlight of my life! I also volunteer at agencies that help the needy and get to see first hand how the money raised is helping people in my community...very cool!
I do alot of public speaking in my community and work with community leaders which is fun. I hold my own fundraisers and get adult and teen volunteers to help me work them. (I have a big one coming up this saturday!!!)
I volunteer to work with kids at church too and I'm just always doing something somewhere. I guess it's good that I am not use to sitting around watching TV since I won't be doing that at the academy!
