DS has received a Request for Tape Test from SA even though review is still pending with DodMerb. Noms/CFA have all been met. This article from 12/8/20: Air Force becomes first military branch to remove fitness 'tape test' | TheHill
From reviewing the forums, it seems USAFA requests tape test more than any other SA.
What is the correlation (if any) between the SA requesting the Tape Test and DodMerb medical determination?
What is the likelihood of a SA denying admission for not meeting BMI or Tape Test, provided the candidate can reasonably be in compliance and no other medical conditions are a contributing factor?

There is no correlation between USAFA requesting the tape test and DODMERB medical determination.

This doesn’t address all of your questions but I can tell you that because my son exceeds the academies’ weight standards for his height, he had to complete body fat forms for USCGA, USMA and USMMA. I’m sure USNA will ask the same of him. As I understand it, you must meet either the height/weight standards or the body fat standards and no exceptions are given. Not even for football players or throwers who may have larger builds. We’ve been able to google to find the standards. Hope this is of some help to you.

+1 to CkzErz. DS has always required a tape test since being a MIDN 2C. Some years ago my brother, an Army nurse, was discharged because he could not meet repeated tape tests.

FACT: Tape tests are ONLY required by SA Admissions offices. DoDMERB does NOT DQ for overweight, unless there's a medical co-morbidty. Otherwise, we just report to the SA that an applicants exceeds the Service's screening weight. As on active duty, overweight is administrative in nature, not medical. :wiggle:

DS received the same required Form O-220, Body fat test. What is not clear is who may produce the test? As stated:
“The examination and data entry must be completed by a qualified medical professional. Qualified professionals include your school nurse, your family doctor or PA, or others in the medical profession.“
My question may not be able to be answered by DODMERB as I have just read the above entry...
But maybe,
Is the High School Varsity School Athletic Trainer considered a person in the “medical profession”?
DS has emailed the noted Selections Division person, but has yet to receive an answer. And the clock is ticking!!
Thank you so much for your time.

Correct = DoDMERB doesn't request it. It would be safe to assume that if the Athletic Trainer is a "certified" athletic trainer, the answer would be YES :wiggle:

Can’t you just have the school nurse do it ? Thats who did my sons. And for the same reason. His weight exceeded height requirement. Because it was Football season and he was a Linebacker. Now when wrestling season came along? He would have been fine. But the tape test isnt unusual.

lol. Same here - football linebacker. His school nurse declined to help because she didn’t have the equipment. I assume she did not read the parameters and see that a simple tape measure is acceptabl.
We have reached out to the trainer.
thanks for the feedback!
