Thank you!Congrats, my kid is there now. If you search here, there are a bunch of posts about it along with a bunch on the service academy applicant page on FB. It's a golden ticket!
What are his stats if you don’t mind sharing,my son has been offered AF prep school. Does anyone have information on what it is like? Academically, physically and socially?
I know this was sent out back in February but I would personally say it’s great academically. Yes the work load is a little heavy, but there are cool projects at the end of the year, as well as some experiments and labs throughout the year for science. Teachers are great honestly. EI is very helpful. some never go and some go everyday, it’s up to personal preference. For the most part, turn in all your work and show work and you’ll at least keep your grade up starting off from first quarter. Physically, you’ll take the PFT 3 times a year if you keep passing (once after basic and then once per semester), but if you don’t pass, then you’ll just keep taking it until you do, and the AFT 2 times per year (once per semester). If you pass your PFT and there is no group PT going on at the time or swim classes, then your Athletic time is pretty much yours, so use it wisely, like work out or if there is a test the next day, then study. Socially, it’s fun honestly. It’s not fun CONSTANTLY, but it’s fun, you’ll meet amazing people, there are rough social times and good social times, at the end you all will begin to miss the good times even when you thought you wouldn’t. Also for academics there is this thing called ACQ (Academic call to quarters) you will use it to study, use it wisely. Sometimes you’ll find u have no homework and some days you’ll feel like you have all the homework in the world, but it will be alright. As long as your meeting standards, don’t stress your appt to the hill, you most likely guaranteed to get it as long as your meeting standards. They’ll tell you what the standards are. Also take the reading test during basic seriously but don’t stress over it, just don’t sleep during itmy son has been offered AF prep school. Does anyone have information on what it is like? Thank you very much for the tips! I really appreciate the information. What do they wear daily? What is husky gear? Also, do they bring their own water bottle from home? If so what size do you recommend?I know this was sent out back in February but I would personally say it’s great academically. My oldest was there three years ago now. Daily they wear OCP's. Husky gear is their khaki pants, dress shoes and Prep Polo shirt which they will be issued (only the polo is issued). They get water bottles on day one that are their squadron color. They can bring one and usually use a different personal one after basic. It will be an amazing experience with the others there. Preppies live by the mantra "Preppie for life" and that will carry over to The Hill where they will be leaders for BCT because of their experience. Congrats and enjoy the time before he reports.Thank you very much for the tips! I really appreciate the information. What do they wear daily? What is husky gear? They wear OCPs daily, but the base as a whole has a Uniform of the Day system where blues are worn Mond-Wednesday and OCPs are worn Thurs-Frid. However, since prep did not have blues they were wearing OCPs all the days of the week. However, there is talk about blues being given to Prep for the incoming class.Thank you very much for the tips! Your not gonna need a water bottle during Basic, because you’ll be issued Camelbaks they expect you to wear 24/7. But once BMT ends, everyone rushes to the BX to get new water bottles, and by the end of Basic, size of water bottle wouldn’t matter, but I suggest you get a large size that you don’t have to refill every single time because it’s dry in COS, depending on where your originally from.Thank you very much for the tips! Oh interesting. Thank you for the heads up. We also heard preppies might be moved up the hill due to renovations.
