Air Force QB...it's that kind of week

Okay...

I'm the OP...I posted this simply to say "wow...it's happening again, how sad."

That's pretty much it.

NOW? It's devolving into something I don't like and really isn't contributing to our forums.

Folks...back on track or I will close my own thread.

Steve

First hand is knowing it yourself. Hearing an experience is secondhand.

first·hand adjective \ˈfərst-ˈhand\
: coming directly from actually experiencing or seeing something

It doesn't matter. All you know of it are anecdotes.

Isn't there a song that went "No you can't! Yes I can! No you can't! Yes I can!" I can't remember what it was, but Maurice Chevalier seems to stick in my head.

You're thinking of the song "I Can do Anything Better Than You" from Annie,Get Your Gun. That song belongs in the Women in the Infantry/Marines thread. Try to stay on topic, which in this case appears to be phenomenology, the study of structures of experience.

LMAO!

Don't be surprised to see this ex QB at Okla St. next year... life goes on....maybe the 3rd string QB can be the last spark plug AF Football needs!:thumb: Go AF...Beat Army, Sink Navy....at least I can wear my T-shirt for now..:shake:

I love my falcons. Anyone who knows me knows that. But a spark plug isn't going into do it. We need a complete engine rebuild.

This is a young person's life, both he and his family will need to deal with the consequences, our discussion - such as it is - adds nothing to the outcome.
Many/most of the issues discussed on this forum add nothing to the outcome....but discuss them we do. Hopefully for the benefit of current and future cadets along with their families. The AF chose to release this young man's name along with the fact that he is no longer a "cadet in good standing". Perhaps you should remind THEM of your concerns for the young man's family?

This thread sums up almost all threads on the topic of special treatment at SA‘s, SMC’s or any place else for that matter.
First: people like to hold their place or more likely their DS or DD places as a bastion of virtue and fairness and everyone is treated the same. Post such as “It one bad apple”, ”It happens at other places, more than here”, “This one punishment of this one person proves we are pure”….
Next: there the post like “In didn’t go here you don’t know” (both sides use this arguement)
Then there the :”We shouldn’t make statements until we have all the fact” posts.
Lastly there are the “You are not smart or wise enough to comment” posts. (mine would fall into that category so take it accordingly).
All phases of life in current American society from Grade school through retirement Athletes are treated differently than the rest of the population and usually to a lower allowable standard of conduct.. The SA’s and SMC’s are not exempt! You can think about the subtle ways that is demonstrated outside the SA’s and SMC’s, but in the these organizations it shows itself as easier admittance (on average), easier day to day life. (from simply not having spend as much time preparing for inspection –due to athletic responsibility, to the punishment handed out for demerits, such as an hour of study hall for the same transgression that gets a non athlete an hour of Physical Activity (put your SA/SMC pet name here) Many of a first year non-athlete come to realize the worse roommate are scholarship athlete not because they are bad people but the fact they have to carry extra load due to the special treatment the athlete receive. These are the simple things that are clear to see and not the seedier things that can go on in the “dark of night”.
On the second type of post: One of the reason that humans are successful as a species is that they are able transfer information through the use of words, both spoken and written. We don’t have to experience something to know it. You all attend/ed school for this reason. As one should have learned all observation is tainted due the biases of the observer/listener so even first-hand information can be false and should be held up to internal as well as external review.
On third types I would mention the Ostrich sticking his head in the dirt, but since he doesn’t do that I won’t use it.
The fourth type of post I simply say don’t go to a chat site if you believe that.
And lastly I think the argument should that to participate in modern athletics at a competitive level requires all SA/SMC’s to lose at least a little of their core principles and is that loss worth the gains of having a competitive sports program.

What exactly is your point in this? The issue of IC versus non-IC has been beaten to death and neither side is conceding anything.

Personally I think that people need to be aware that rumors are often not true, thus they should be wary of spreading rumors about a person whose life might be altered in a very profound way. No matter what the situation was that led to this action, the cadet is being held to account, he is no longer on the team, he may also be facing further punishment. No one here was part of this action, no one here really knows what the infraction was. We hear/read things, but how do we know it is correct? What if what we heard was materially wrong? How do we undo the rumor? Once I save this comment, you can search for it on any search engine within 24 hours.

The academy has released a statement, it does not include some of the items that have been disclosed on this thread. I have heard things said by others as well, but I do not repeat any of it here, because if any of it is inaccurate or misstated by others, I do not want to be part of the rumor that will follow this young man and his family after this situation is finally resolved. That is not "sticking one's head in the sand", it is a humane and decent thing to do.

Roger - out!

We are free to discuss anything we want as long it doesn't violate forum rules.

I'm afraid I have to agree with you...BUT keeping the faith to a degree the season is still salvageable:confused:

I think your making his point.

Oh, no you and USAFA2016Mom are wrong if you're talking about the reality of the institution. I said she was talking about the way it SHOULD be, not how it actually is.

You are the only person wrong because I thought "we are both wrong" was referring to you and me. Yes, you and USAFA2016Mom are wrong about them (D1 athletes) being treated equally with their non-D1 athlete classmates..

For the record, I really don't care whether you think I am right or wrong, it really isn't your place to be judge and jury. My comment was that I felt suspending him showed that he was treated equal to other cadets in this instance (suspending him for whatever violation he had regardless of the fact that he was the starting QB). I did not try to say that ICs are always treated equally, but, I hope, when it comes to Acpro, honor violations, etc, all cadets are treated fairly.
