Air Force Revises Physical Fitness Test

It wasn’t that long ago that AF did stationary bicycle for cardio, yes? Then the wartime footing kicked in, and the run came back.

When that "bike" test first came out...would you like to know who failed the most often and who passed?

Fail - Fit individuals that did a LOT of cardio
Pass - Smokers that did little exercise

After that...they kept revamping, and revamping, and revamping...

I suppose a lot of Pentagon majors were desperate to be seen (those that haven't served there...a major/lt commander in the Puzzle Palace is completely invisible) to make lieutenant colonel. So we had the decades of silliness.

The cadet PFT was a pretty good test of fitness...never understood why they never even considered that.

Once upon a time in a galaxy far far away we were required to take a AF physical fitness test. We had to use the local High School track for the run. Our units were about fifty max including Officers and enlisted out in the middle of nowhere. Young 2nd Lt. was in charge of the enlisted qualifications (never heard if E5 thru O4 reported) . E2 shows up in slacks and dress shoes as first runner and burns up the track. Lt. says this whole thing is a joke and let's go back up the mountain and meet at the NCO club to discuss this evaluation (small units only had NCO Clubs, no enlisted or Officer Clubs, everyone a member). The kid was all state track. Don't know what happened to the detachment qualification report but I did have to burn classified in the incinerator.

I was in back in the stationary bike days and smokers definitely had an advantage. I agree that the cadet PFT/AFT is a good test. I guess I don't understand why we need choices. If you are on a profile for an injury, I get it, but a 1.5 mile run isn't long distance.

That article reads like DuffleBlog:

In response to the changes, one Reddit user wrote that he tried to sell "walking 18 holes" on a golf course to his chief, which was a "no go."

Another user said the walk test is a "trap" and "is actually harder than the run in a lot of ways."

Many users were excited about the option for a shuttle run as opposed to the 1.5 mile distance.

"Yoga for a time limit coming next," another user joked.
