Air Force ROTC October board 2024-2025

I still don't see an App # for my son, only an App ID which is only six digits and starts with 136. That's the only number I see.

In the portal it states "Welcome xxxxx, your scholarship application status is "Eligible". Your AFROTC Scholarship interview has been received and processed. Your application will meet the next available selection board, scheduled October 21. Results will be released on or about November 8. You can check back here to view the results. We will also email you a notification letter explaining whether or not you've been offered a scholarship."
Click on some of the other application tabs like the counselor report, or Pfa, or SATs, activities, etc.

Some of them have additional numbers.

Look for a set that starts with 202500.

I don’t know if that has been there for me the whole time or was assigned once the boards begin.

I am in the 1xxx. It most likely indicates more than 3000 applicants. 2022 had 5,200 applicants for about 1,000 were awarded scholarships. It fluctuates each year.

I think these are the steps:

Eligible > Boarded > Offer

If you do not receive a scholarship offer in this board, your status will change to "boarded/under consideration" after the conclusion of this board's award round. You wont get revieved again but if your score is higher than new applicants, you can be offered a place.
With scores being relatively easy to calculate, I wish the cutoff was public info each year.

It would also be cool to actually understand what the process of the board is like. From what I understand, the scores are complete before the board. It’s entirely formulaic.

So if that’s true, what does the board do? Do they recommend yes or no on each person electronically? Do they discuss each candidate and vote? Do they rescore each candidate despite a fully formulaic score has already been assigned? Do they review certain majors first?

I’m super curious!

I would expect there are many things that go into this that the scores dont cover from diversity to degree choice to states. I dont know enough about it but I could easily envision that you have x number of applicants within a range of score. For the first round its possible they will only take standout students.

The interview counts for 45%. I’d like to know if there’s intra-related reliability between the interviewers.

  1. Interview Performance(typically 50-60% of the total score):
    • Candidates are evaluated on their communication skills, confidence, and ability to articulate their thoughts clearly.
    • Interviewers assess the candidate's motivation for joining AFROTC, knowledge about the program, and understanding of military service.
  2. Resume and Accomplishments(15-25%):
    • This includes the evaluation of academic performance, leadership experiences, extracurricular activities, and any relevant awards or achievements.
    • Candidates should be prepared to discuss their resume in detail.
  3. Personal Attributes(10-20%):
    • Interviewers look for qualities such as integrity, adaptability, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities.
    • This may also include behavioral questions that assess how candidates handle challenges or conflicts.
  4. Overall Impression(5-10%):
    • This subjective component reflects the overall impression the interviewers have of the candidate. It includes their demeanor, professionalism, and how well they fit the AFROTC values and culture.
I would think its fairly locked down with scores broken down further in each area to avoid personal biases.

Can you share the source of this information?

My research suggests:

Sat 30% up to 300 points
Gpa 20% up to 200 points
Pfa 5%up to 50 points
Interview 45% up to 450 points

The interview is broken down in to similar categories as above. But still results in a score of up to 450 points.

my question remains, if the app is full scored before the board…what do the actual boards do this week to determine final decisions.

The above is the scoring of the interview which is the 45%.

They evaluate each person, Its not the score only that matters. If you have someone who is brilliant at academics and interviewing but can't run or has no leadership or military knowledge would you take them over someone with a similar score who is well rounded? What if you have 50 people on the same score but one is a black or hispanic kid from the projects with a single mom and has overcome significent trauma to get the same points as a white kid from Connecticut with a dad in the military and a mom a math teacher.

I hear what you are saying and it makes sense. At the same time, some of the things you mention would not be found in the application and would easily be unmentioned in an interview.

The application activities section also does not allow for any real explanation, or nuance.

But I hear you, there is a score, and then there is some level of review of the score and items in the application, that lead to some other form of score or recommendation.

Again, would be super cool to hear the actual behinds the scenes!

I think by having the interview so high, and no recommendations, I think they have a very different approach to other applications. Another factor is that I think nearly 50% work at desk jobs which is why the PFE is not as high. Could be that character and trust are highly valued attribues for cyber fields with confidential information looked at. At least i would hope so.

Thank you! Found it. 200s for my son.

My son just submitted his application and has his interview Monday. Is the interview typically with one person? Or a panel?

One person. Usually the most senior officer on campus (Colonel or LT Colonel). Sometimes a Major or Captain.

There is a lot of information online with common questions, tips on what to bring, strategies for getting the cadre to know you before the actual interview.

If it’s Monday, I’m assuming you received an email from someone. In my case, the interviewer emailed me directly.

From what I've read and heard from my older son (on an AFROTC scholarship), the interview portion of the AFROTC application is the largest single part of the scoring (assuming GPA/SAT/ACT are competitive). What he told me was the interviewers are trying to make sure you're a good fit for the Air Force (i.e. not just smart or physically fit, but also somebody who will mesh well). If it's their first ROTC interview they should definitely search this board for the types of questions they will be asked so they have thought about how they would answer. I know it's likely not easy, but being relaxed and getting into a personal dialog (vs. just question/answer) is helpful. Also, they should have a mental list of questions to ask the interviewer.

I haven’t seen the email yet, so it may have more details. I was surprised how quickly he heard. Submitted on Saturday and email requesting interview on Monday. But guess he missed the first review board? He prioritized finishing his nomination and academy apps and it took longer than we expected.

Yes, today is the last day of the October board. And yes, that is a very quick response - especially when you factor in Saturday!

Best of luck to all! Remember, only a small portion of standout scholarships will be announced this round with more coming in next 2 or 3 if you include space force meetings.

I don’t know, but I keep checking. I have noticed a couple of odd things which could be completely coincidental and irrelevant.

1. On Monday, every page of my app had buttons illuminated to make edits/changes.
2. Yesterday, all those same buttons were still available except “activities.” That page would no longer accept edits.
3. Today that “activity” page is the only one I can’t even view in my app.

On another note, my account has 3 tracking numbers. An applicant ID, a contact ID and an application number. I’m curious is the app number is based on when I opened the app, when I completed it, my last name, my score, or anything else! Probably means nothing!
Where did you see your tracking numbers on the website?

is the current consensus that results will come out next week on november 7th? I'm applying to yale scea and hoping to get the type 1 scholarship this board so I can update my application.
really counting on this one because I didn't get awarded a scholarship from the arotc first board.
