Air Force ROTC Scholarships / Admissions - AMA

1. No penalty if he drops before entering sophomore year.
2. He should major in whatever he is passionate about. Having a tech degree doesn't add points to your application, it's just that most of our scholarships go to tech.
Ok. One more. He is getting a lot of recruiting hits from baseball recruiters. If he goes to a university with a baseball scholarship with no ROTC affiliation how hard is it to get into OTS? With his end goal being a pilot in the USAF?
Basically if we pay for his college education, and he enlists, what are his chances if getting into flight school?
Thank you for the information and the quick responses.

OTS selection is different each year. There might be more competition, etc. We can never predict the future so I'll just say he has 0 chance if he doesn't apply.

Good one! Ok. What about the enlistment route after grad if he doesn’t make ots junior year??

I feel much more confident now thank you. CAP really sure taught me a lot lol.

Sorry. I meant senior year! I had a senior moment!

Enlistment to OTS is also an option, but keep in mind that we'll be taking a look at your GPA & scores so at the end of the day, unless those change, the only difference now is that you have some form of prior service which is its own board.

Does the AFROTC application page give some sort of status update when the application is "board ready" and going to the next board? Related question -- how does an applicant know that his interview report has been submitted?

After a couple of weeks following his interview, my son’s status was updated to say that his interview review was uploaded and that his application would be presented at Feb 3 board.

Just as an FYI, there was a technical glitch when trying to upload the PFA into the portal today. We ended up having to send by email to the "tech" person to input on his end. He did mention that DD's wasn't the only one.

With today being the last day finish your HSSP app (excluding interview), I'll be less active on the forums. I hope this thread was somewhat helpful to you all and served as a tool. Good luck to everyone who applied and hope to those scholarship offers!
Thank you for everything sir/ma'am you really were a big help.

This has been a great service, which I wish others would emulate. Well done. Thank you.

Does anyone on here know if they take into account the candidates height and weight during the physical tests? My DS being 6’4 and 200lbs is not going to move like a 5’11 160 lb candidate. He is very athletic, plays baseball and works out 2x a day most days (with team and then on his own), however, his frame doesn’t not allow for 7 min runs or excessive pull ups, etc. I know the CGA took his physical build under consideration during his PFE. Just curious. Thanks!!!

Sorry... edit. He did get a 7min mile. But I am seeing a lot of 5-6 min miles. 😳. He for sure isn’t a runner with his body frame. Fast in sprints though.

I think if you look upstream you will see that "AFROTCAdmissions" wrote that AFROTC gives the PFE minimal weight in its scholarship evaluation. Seems to me that all they want to see is passing at this stage.

Thanks! I am really impressed by some the scores I am seeing for all of the SA and ROTC’s fitness exams. My DS is very athletic and built for sports and such ( he is at the gym right now). So I really wonder about the size in regard to results of the candidates. Interesting. Appreciate the response. As an aside, he got almost 90 on the ball throw, the long arms came in handy!

Haha! Yes. Correct. It was his USNA one. They are all blending together!
AFROTC and the academy PFAs are completely different. For example for AFROTC all it is is a 1.5 mile run, sit-ups in a minute, and push-ups in a minute, but the Air Force academy has it so it’s 2 minutes for pushups, 1 mile run, sprints, ball throws, and etc.
