Airforce Week Prank Ideas

I know that whole ‘cortex isn’t formed yet’ thing....bust seriously, it’s not rocket science that DANGEROUS and DAMAGING stuff should just. Not. Happen.

I would be LIVID with my Mid if he did stuff like that! Geeeeeze.

Injuries, especially ones that can impact commissioning.

Damage to personal property.

Damage to USNA property, especially the type that costs $$$$ to fix out of the Supe’s already spare operating budget.

Actions that bring discredit to the Service, embarrass the Academy and make people question the investment of Federal dollars.

Criminal actions.

the comment that caught my eye was "the Dant was unhappy with the sloppy parade"

based on the "drill" that i've seen at USNA, that parade must have been SERIOUSLY sloppy to warrant any extra practice

No kidding. Ask anyone at Hudson High, about our formations and parades.

Anything with a chair might work They don't call us "The Chair Force" for nothing ". Hope for a great game.

Not due to pranks I suspect but coincides with Air Force week...so posting here. Another ‘change’. I’ve recently seen this circulating:

“From The Alumni Association:

The following is being sent at the request of the Commandant of Midshipmen at the United States Naval Academy.

Alumni and friends,

The 2019 football season is well underway, and we’re looking forward to many of you returning to Annapolis for upcoming reunion weekends. Whether you’re a season ticket holder and regular tailgater, or just coming to celebrate a milestone reunion, I’m writing you today to ask for your support and assistance to “stop the snack attacks”…

Over the past few years, what began as children passing candy to midshipmen marching to the stadium has evolved into messy cheeseburgers and hot dogs, as well as bottles and cans of soda, being thrown at the midshipmen as they are marching or positioned along Taylor Avenue.

Before I’m accused of being the “fun vacuum,” and aside from ruined uniforms and the Brigade acting unprofessional, we need to remember the physical security environment is far from what it was when many of us were those same midshipmen marching to the stadium. The safety and security of the Brigade, as well as our fans, is our number one priority.

Beginning this weekend, we will have some of our midshipmen actively engaging with our fans along Taylor Avenue, who will safely collect and then distribute the candy, food, and beverages after march-on within their company seating area. Our ATFP personnel will also be actively discouraging fans from throwing candy, food and beverages.

I thank you in advance for your support in this effort.

Go Navy, Beat Air Force!

Very respectfully,

T.R. Buchanan ‘92
Commandant of Midshipmen”

Yep, I just received the 'Dant's "Don't feed the Mids" message on my emails.
Looks like the Morale Suppression team is out in full force.... can't wait to see how the ATFP personal discourage fans from disobeying the 'Dant.
I don't disagree with the message, but frankly these things have a way of backfiring.

By the way, since when do Spirit pranks rely on official sanction or approval ? Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor ? (or when Delta Tau Chi got put on double secret probation ?). Sounds like its time to play Cops and Robbers !
Thank You!

Recon Raids are supposed to be sub-rosa and definitely edgy. The fact that permission is a part of it has kind of watered down what used to be a great sense of accomplishment.

Class of 2023 broke the record for the shortest Air Force week! It lasted only an hour and a half before it got locked up for some pranks going too far. Dant said they might open it up but that is only speculation.
Was it actually Plebe pranks, or just the pranks this year? I heard it was bc of the damage to the pool from free weights and bleachers being thrown in, and that it wasn't Plebes who did that --??

File this under “Things that roll around in my brain when I wake up at 3am and can’t get back to sleep”:

Why don’t police arrest people that throw cheeseburgers and hot dogs at marching Mids, ruining their uniforms? I talked to DS, he doesn’t know of anyone who has had such an ‘attack’.

I picture the kids, who idolize the Mids, excitedly handing out a piece of candy to a Mid...who accepts it with a smile and a wave. Creating a memory for that kiddo. It’s a tradition that families line up to do.

Of course I live 1,000 miles away and have experienced ONE parade. But I only witnessed a bunch of families with kids sooooo excited. I walked the route. Saw nothing like indicated in this letter.

I think it’s sad. For the community who seemingly is respectful and love their Mids. Maybe people who live in the area have a different opinion? But why not arrest the few that are disorderly? Verses spoil the experience for the kids?

Either way, time to GO NAVY [emoji572]️[emoji123]!!

> I am sure that it has happened, but really haven't heard of it and probably not an epidemic. I suspect that this started as a tailgater slipping a burger or hot dog to a Midshipman as they marched past, and then somewhere along the line someone tossed one to a Midshipman in the inner ranks and missed. Of course, drunk tailgaters do stupid things, so it could have evolved into deliberate attacks..

> Sounds like things have actually turned 180 since my day.... back then it was the Midshipmen that would carry hard candies and discreetly toss them to the kids (and cute girls :)) who lined the road. Somewhere along the line it sounds like the game turned the other way !

For those not familiar with the Marchover, marching is the most efficient way to move 4000 Midshipman from the Yard to the Stadium, and it creates a sense of pagentry to the start of every game. There is a lot of criticism of the Midshipman marching skills here, and of course they could do better, but I don't think anyone ever intended the Marchover to have the formality and precision of a Dress Prade. There is a atmosphere of informality in the ranks, even a little banter between the upperclass and plebes, and some degree of interaction between the Midshipmen in the ranks and those along the Prade route. I am sure the degree of informality varies with each Administration, and appears that the new Commandant wants to tighten things up. I suspect that this is coming from the 'Dant, , not the new Supe -- the new Supe is a VP guy and by definition cool !) , and the whole edict about feeding the Midshipmen is to promote professionalism in the ranks than trying to protect the Midshipmen from hamburger attacks !

Maybe one of our current Midshipman can comment on the current state of morale in the Brigade during Marchover ? I'm guessing there is going to be greater emphasis on grading the marchover too.

Sure enough, mids were not subject to a barrage of airborne snacks while marching on today. Yeah, there’s definitely a push to make march-on a lot more structured, though the extent may vary by batallion. 1st Batallion’s LtCol was actually marching alongside them today chewing out any mids who thought it was an opportune time to have a conversation, something that was accepted last year.

A wrecked car placed in T Court for Beat Army pep rally and the fun of mids beating on it with a bat. All fine. Post-pep rally in early AM, the Bonehead Squad decided to set it on fire, causing an EPA-reportable incident and damage to T-Court bricks, with another fat contract to get those replaced due to fire damage and environmental contamination measures in a Chesapeake watershed zone.

What year was this?
I may have heard this story before.

In addition to what Kierkegaard said, other battalions continued march on as normal... just without as much food. The fans who did toss snacks were met with enthusiastic cheers

Had a convo with my Mid. He said the Dant also has not awarded any meritorious academic awards for 6week exams. Which has been pretty status quo. Moral is for sure low. Also that the CO’s (right word?) that collected march along goodies kept them for themselves (figured. Duh they won’t be “passed out after the game”...and even if they are, what Mid will stand in line for a piece of candy?). He said it was the most depressing March on ever, and during Air Force week at that.

Lowwww moral. Bummer.

Im not complaining...I’m reporting. Sure hope it settles down so they can have a little fun. Dark ages are coming up.
