Moving one of the jets into Tcourt is always a classic. (Last time I looked , they are within a fence on Hospital Point , so might be tougher now).
You could Wildman one of the "less friendly" (i.e. Flamer) upperclass to show spirit.
And of course, Exchange Zoomies are fair game.

Don’t do anything to ruin Zoomie uniforms of that costs them money.

But... Anchors Aweigh at top volume to wake them up, through either serenading them or with devices, is always a treat.

Wonder if a twist on ‘earning their wings’ with a set of angel wings from the Halloween Store....

One of my great regrets now is that the jets are rarely moved. It used to really be a weekly occurrence and yes, the administration did NOT like it and tried to rein it in but the brigade did a good job of continuing to move them to some very interesting locations such as right in front of the doors to Bancroft Hall (yes, up the ramps) or up onto Red Beach awith nothing but mid-power.

DD was "involved" with banner hangings from all the light poles from Academy to Stadium. Annapolis police showed up with the spotlight. The only comment was "don't fall, the paper work will take us all night".

One of the funnier ones I saw as a BattO was a bunch of plebes who were in Glee Club make up new, funny but not mean or profane lyrics to the Air Force song. They sent around the new lyrics before a designated lunch and led the Brigade from the Anchor in a spirited rendition. The new lyrics were much more ocean-oriented.

Of course, I saw the Zoomies take (washable) Air Force blue paint and decorate the Supe’s and Dant’s sidewalks in front of their quarters, and serenade them with the AF song at oh-dark-thirty.

Hello all,

I am a plebe at USNA, and I need good prank ideas for the upcoming Airforce Week. Open to all ideas.

V/R

Plebe

Your about to have a pretty fun week, Plebe!! Remember that social media never dies, yours or others you are in, don’t do anything outside the realm of acceptability.

GO NAVY!!

What is a “zoomie”?

A fond family term of endearment for AF.

I’m a squid, an equally fond equivalent. USNA folks call USMA folks “woops.” There are all kinds of inter-service and inter-SA and intra-service nicknames for your service or your specialty or what you drive. “He’s a Hornet driver.” “She’s a bubblehead (subs).”

We could devote whole threads to these family nicknames! Some are unique to service, some are widely used across all. I would guess “rotorhead” for helo pilot might be one of those.

Bonus term: flight suit = zoombag

But a few Slang Nicknames for military members:
  • Army: Doggie, Dogface, Doughboy
  • Marine Corps: Jarhead, Gyrine, Devil Dogs, Leatherneck
  • Navy: Squid, Swabbie
  • Coast Guard: Coastie
And...…
  • US Air Force: Wing Nuts, Air Heads and most of all, Zoomies.

Good collection @AROTC-dad.

These are, of course, the more familiar, "friendly" nicknames. As a Marine, I have been called and heard a lot worse! ;)

A little service academy trivia .... why do we call West Point cadets "woops?"

Contrary to the common assumption that its because of the initials WP... it really comes from the fact that the jackets worn by the flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz areWest Point uniforms, and the flying monkeys sound like "woop, woop, woop,...."

(Before someone goes to SNOPEs etc, and tries to debunk this story, I heard it from one of my squad leaders plebe summer, and I'm sticking with it).

OMG, say it ain't so ! All well deserved, but used "with all due respect !" :) (Seriously, I've got alot of respect for the Marines...)

As an aside, there is a lot of good natured (and sometimes less than good natured) rivalry among the Services, including the use of nicknames and slang. However, readers of the Forum should understand that these terms of endearment should only be used by those who have served. Participation in this type of banter but non-veterans (including, and maybe even particularly Candidates ) is discouraged.

Good advice @Old Navy BGO!

Your comment reminded me of something: Any time a Marine started a phrase with "With all due respect Sir..." I would hold up my hand and stop them mid-sentence. I would caution the young man that he had better reflect upon what he was about to say and make sure he wanted to proceed. I would follow with the fact that I had yet to hear the completion of that phrase that didn't end up being disrespectful. "With all due respect" is not a blanket get-out-of-jail-free card to say whatever the heck you want.

Absolutely, I know exactly how its used....that's why I added the follow up line about respecting Marines

Along with the admonition to stop and think about what they are going to say, I also suggest they consider the First Rule of Holes.....1) When in a hole, stop digging !

Class of 2023 broke the record for the shortest Air Force week! It lasted only an hour and a half before it got locked up for some pranks going too far. Dant said they might open it up but that is only speculation.

Don't tease us...what did they do ?

I doubt that it beats Army Week '81, where the entire Brigade was called to indoor formation at 0'dark thirty, and the 'Dant CAPT Edney put us all in "hack" for an incident that involved luring the Jimmy Legs out of their patrol car, then taking the car and locking it in TCourt with the lights and sirens flashing. I will never forget the comradery among all classes of Midshipmen, looking at each other , wondering what in the heck "hack" was.
