Hello,

I am AmWorks [house of cards reference], and I am enlisted active duty in the USAF. I am applying to the Air Force Academy through the LEAD program. I have already started my application for class of 2022, and I have started pursuing several nominations. I hope to have my application completed by September. The only aspect of my application that I am worried about is the candidate fitness test. Any advice that you guys have for me would be much appreciated.

Love the HoC reference, @America Works - DH and I are big fans. Good news about the candidate fitness test is that it's probably the "easiest" part of the application to make large gains relatively fast. As an enlisted airman, you already have to take and do well on the basic fitness test. The CFT is a little different with the shuttle run and basketball throw in addition to the run, situps, and pushups.

Check out this thread for advice on the basketball throw, which seems to give most people the biggest challenge. Yeah, it's on the USMA forum, but the CFT is the same for ALL SAs.

As for the run, pushups, and situps: do them and do some more. I'm a now-45-year-old woman, I can do pullups, and I do 60 pushups every morning. If an old lady professor can do this stuff, you can nail the CFT by working on your weak spots AND by doing the CFT in sequence, the way you'll do it IRL.

Good luck!

Thank you for the words of advice and the encouragement. I'm sure with some practice I will pass the CFA with flying colors. At what point do applicants usually take their CFA?
