My Army JROTC battalion has just went through JPA and retained its HUD status. My SAI will gladly provide a nomination to USMA, but USAFA is my primary goal. SAI has never cross nominated to USAFA and is not sure it can be done. I'm 99% sure it can be done based on extensive research. Problem is I can not identify the exact process and Form # needed. Any help would be appreciated.

Great question, and something possibly pertinent to DS, except at College ROTC level, but applying to SA.

I’ve copied below the USAFA website language WRT JROTC noms, right out of the nominations section (bolding mine). As I read it, your Army JROTC unit has to be an honor unit to nominate to USAFA. Of course, USAFA Admissions is your primary official source, and you can get clarity from them if your Army JROTC unit qualifies and what steps/admin are required. (Sorry, I don’t know what “HUD” means in this context, maybe “Honor,” but I’m Navy, so HUD = Heads Up Display to me).

Honor Military Schools and Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps

There are 20 appointments total for all categories. Honor military schools are designated by the Department of the Army, Marine Corps and Navy to nominate U.S. Air Force Academy candidates annually from among their honor students. Each honor unit may nominate five students to compete for vacancies. Students should request a nomination from their senior ROTC instructor.
Members of college and high school honor Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC and AFJROTC) units may also apply in this category. Five students from each detachment may be nominated to compete for the authorized vacancies. Students should request a nomination from their professor of aerospace studies or their aerospace science instructor who will then recommend nominees to the head of the institution.

Thanks for the info. HUD is Honor Unit w/ Distinction. Your post confirms what I've found in my search about JROTC cross service nominations. How that is to be done exactly is the puzzling part. The nom forms I've seen for Army JROTC to USMA are clearly not intended for USAFA. Ultimately this may be a question for my ALO or admissions.

JROTC and ROTC are pooled together for the 20 appointments available. I'd say very pertinent and very possible the same exact process. I'll share when I figure this out. Then again, it's only 20 appointments. I don't know if fostering my competition is in my best interest. 😀

For my unit ( which was air force but we were doing this for army) we reached out to our JROTC leadership, to other JROTC units in our area ( army and air force in this case) along with reaching out to USAFA.

Reassure us you are also applying for 2 Senators, 1 Representative, VP and any others for which you are eligible.

Rest assured. All avenues will be applied to for nominations once the date arrives. I'm just trying to get whatever I can done now before I'm hit with the barrage of SA tasks this summer.

Smart.

I am also looking to do the same thing. My JROTC program is a HUD unit and Army as well. I'll be following to see if you find out any additional information and I'll post if I get any information. My Maj said he was going to start looking into the process since they have never had anyone in the program apply to a SA most of the cadet have only gone the ROTC route or enlisted.

Form is "USAFA FORM O-762, 20170522"
Let me know if you cannot locate it online, I can retrieve a copy for you.

Fillablw form noted above is for AFJROTC. I believe the question is about the proper form/nom format for non-AF JROTC program noms for USAFA.

I was nominated to USAFA by my AI, from an Army JROTC HUD as well, I'll ask him what the process looked like.

Can you send me a copy? I'm having problems pulling it from 2 online sources? All signs lead to this being the correct form. Thanks!
