AL Boys State Interview

My Field Force Officer (who is in the American Legion) recommended I attend Boys State and said I “will be very successful” there. I had never heard of Boys State before he recommended I go there. From my research all I could gather is that it is based on building leadership and citizenship skills, through a mock state government with two parties: Nationalists and Federalists. Is this accurate?
Also, what are some questions I could expect from the Legion chairman who is interviewing me this week? Is getting an interview with the AL a good chance of acceptance?
Thanks for any input!

Boys State is a great program and would be a good addition to your USMA application. Take the time and do some research on your own about the program. Seek out past graduates of the program and talk to them. The Boys State process, just like the SA process, is a journey. Congratulations on getting an interview. Your Field Force Officer obviously thinks you are a good candidate for the program. Be yourself, dress appropriately for the interview, use yes sir/yes ma'am, have good posture and be yourself!

Simple questions from my experience. Just had my NY interview and they asked me what the pledge of allegiance meant to me, other than that it was simple. Act patriotic and interested and you will get in

I do a lot of Boys State interviews and usually interview only one or two kids more than the slots I have to fill. . . When I'm planning to allocate 2 to a particular school, I'll talk to 2 or maybe 3 boys based on recommendations from the school. Kids who contact the post will also get an interview.
I recommend that you READ the website for your state's boys state program and if its not enough, look for other states as they will be similar. Also seek out current seniors at your high school who attended last year. Your guidance dept should be able to identify them.

Thanks for everyone’s feedback! I used your advice, did more research, and had an excellent interview. I’m excited to go to Boys State this summer!
