Well… the jumpseat was a line pilot. Nothing saying he couldn’t have pulled a Germanwings when he got to work with a flight attendant on the flight deck (the US has had a “2 man rule” for a long time). Also, not the first time a jumpseater has attempted this (FedEx 705). Therese also a high deal of likelihood that Malaysian 370 and China Eastern 5735 met their demises due to pilot suicide.
AI is a possibility… but then you run the risk of the Hal 9000 saying “I don’t can’t do that Dave.”
All the more reason for 2 pilots on the flight deck.
