I applied for the Corps of Cadets at Norwich, Virginia Military Institute and Virginia Tech majoring in Information Technology/Cyber Security. As of today, I have been accepted to all 3. I am proud to announce, I will be joining VTCC Class of 2027. Also, my AROTC application is now complete and will be reviewed in January! I want to thank EVERYONE here that provided such great advice and support! Go Hokies!

Congrats on your admissions and choice. Would you be willing to share some of the key reasons for your choice of college? It might help others.

Congratulations! My son is a freshman Hokie in the VTCC (Army ROTC) and loves it!

I selected VTCC over VMI and Norwich primarily because of academics. The 2nd major determining factor was the VT school spirit (
) and the incredibly beautiful campus and updated building, especially the completely renovated quad that the VTCC calls home.

Can confirm that VT has a beautiful campus. I don't know if you visited and toured, but they plan to have the new third residence hall on Upper Quad ready for move-in for Fall 2023. All cadets will finally all be living on Upper Quad. I believe it's behind Lane Hall.

Son is a sophomore in AROTC. He loves it there. Great choice!

Yes, I have been there twice. They told me new battalion and barracks recently opened. On the last trip I stay overnight with Cadets on the upper quad. The pylons and rich 150+ year military history of VT knida sealed the deal for me. This NOT just another large university with ROTC. The Corps of Cadets is the foundation upon which the entire university is built. Today and rightfully so, VT is an SMC. I believe my life in the VT Corps of Cadets will be a completely immersive military experience combined with all the pomp and circumstance of highly reputable athletic division 1 school. Walking around campus, I could see and feel the tremendous sense of pride and school spirit that exists with nearly the ENTIRE 30,000+ undergrad population. The civilian population also seem to fully respect and take pride in having such a Corps of Cadets. Lastly, another thing I noticed was how much new construction was going there... that spoke volumes to me about how the school itself was expanding and doing all the right things. So thats why I selected VT.

Paige, your rationale for choosing VT pretty much mirrored the ones my son listed as his basis for choosing VT over Norwich and the Citadel. He really liked both of the other two schools, but the fact he was going to be interacting with over 30,000 civilian students on a daily basis, coupled with the campus and the spirit, clinched it for him. He hasn’t regretted his decision at all, and I’m sure you won’t either.

I believe the new building behind Lane Hall is the new Military Science Building. I think the new dorm is going next to Lane Hall behind Pearson Hall. I could be wrong. I haven't been back since my son commissioned a year ago today.

Yeah I'm an Aggie and being with a huge civilian population keeps me sane. Congrats on VTCC.
