Alternate Nomination Chances?

To put my mind at ease, I received a nomination from my Senator but was not named the Principal. I'm worried if being named an alternate significantly lowers my chances. Do I still have a shot?

If it helps, I believe I passed the CFA and may be qualified academically, but I need a medical waiver which might take awhile. Going through the waiver process last time I applied, I believe I will be able to get one this time.

Being the principal nominee confers great advantage. Presuming 3Q, the candidate is virtually guaranteed of receiving offer of appointment.

Not being the principal obviously does not confer the same advantage. So yes, technically speaking, your chances are lower. However, many (maybe even most) offerees were not a principal nominee. And many (maybe even most) nom slates don’t have a principle nominee.

I guess what I'm asking specifically is how the whole slate thing works. If someone already wins the slate, am I still competing with others on the slate?

I read somewhere that MoC's can only have 5 cadets there at a time, would that still apply here? And lastly, I was told that being on the NWL benefits college reapplicants, is this necessarily true?

Extensive discussion on this topic within the last 48 hours or so. Read through the Nominations forum and you'll find some helpful information. I'm pretty sure your specific questions are there as well and I think you'll find a general read really helpful regardless.

As @OfficerToBe750 says, there’s a lengthy, detailed post about nominations in a sticky at the top of this forum. Please spend a few minutes reading it closely. It should answer 99.9% of your questions.
