I'm wanting to attend USNA and make a career as a Navy officer. I have been accepted to West Point Summer Leaders Experience and I will find out if I got accepted to NASS in May. My stats are as follows:
-3.9 Unweighted GPA
-32 ACT Composite Score
-34 ACT Superscore
-Member of NHS
-Student Council Representative
-2nd Year Member of Soccer Team (Varsity)
-Played Football Freshman Year
-Top 2% of my High School Class
-Will have taken 5 AP classes by the end of my Junior Year
-Work 30+ hours/week in the Summer
-Volunteer quite a bit (not sure of the number of hours)

My school only allows leadership positions to seniors in all extracurricular activities. I have applied for President for NHS and Vice President for Student Council. I'm also planning on running Cross-Country this fall.

After looking at my stats, how do you think I fair in the competition for the academies? All replies are greatly appreciated! Thank you!

You sound competitive, but none of us can make that determination, as so many factors go into admission. How competitive are you in comparison to others in your district? Does your school send many students to college? Do you have leadership experience? Can you score well on the CFA?

All of these are factors, and the only way to know is to apply. And until you do so, actively engage yourself in extracurriculars and sports. Control the things you can, and sell yourself to the Academy. If one of us simply told you, "yep, you're good", would you stop trying to improve your standing as an applicant? I wish you the best of luck. It's a hell of a ride.

ChrisMMurray, your stats look good. There are many factors that will go into determining if you get an appointment, but one thing I know for sure... the answer is no if you don't apply. :thumb:

If you read the TWE thread, plenty of stellar candidates that didn't get in this year so no one knows for sure except admissions. Simple answer is apply and find out. If you get SS, have fun

keep in mind much of your chances will depend on how well you do with the nomination board interview process, that is when you are able to sell yourself to the people that make the decisions on who gets nominated by senators and congressmen. Of course even if you land a nomination you still only have about a 1 in 3 chance of getting an acceptance. 19,000 applicants for 1300 slots in the plebe class, that is pretty intense competition but best of luck.

It's worth your time to apply and in no way would USNA be a "reach" for you but at the same time USNA is never anyone's safety. Keep in mind that many things complicate and cloud the admissions process such as who else is in your district, the number of slots your MOC has, how your essay, interview, recommendations and CFA appear to the board.
