My senior friend at my high school just got appointed to the academy, and he gave me a few pointers. He believes he was "barely appointed" but I cannot tell if he was just being humble or not. He had 1390 SAT, was an eagle scout, was the son of military personnel and had a 3.9 GPA, played football for 4 years and did martial arts for 3. Does this seem like a "barely appointed" person? If this is barely appointed, do I even stand a chance?

My current things (scores/extra curriculum): (currently a junior)
1370 SAT (710 R, 660 M, 20 Essay)
3.72 GPA
President of club, officer in 2 clubs
Debate and model un honors
Band leadership
1 year of fencing (saber/epee)
2 years of out of school soccer

Do I seem like I have any chance at making it to the academy?

Go ahead and start applying. I see some of what gets in now and am glad I'm ten years behind them because even with athletics, it'd be a tough row to get in for me. The Army as a whole is moving towards the whole Warrior Scholar model. This year all Captains in Career Course had to take the GRE and report scores to the Army. You seem like a well rounded kid from what you gave us. Every class is different, this years first non-select may be 100 from the bottom next year.

Well rounded and not too far off from him. It all depends on your competition on your slate. Submit your best application ... can you get the SAT over 1400 and over 700 math if you took a course?

Go to boys/girls state. Practice the CFA and do well on it.

I’d add...Don’t just go to boys/girls state....get elected to state assembly, governor etc.

This made me chuckle. "barely appointed" That's like being barley pregnant. Good luck to you. If this is what you want to do, pursue with everything you have. I wish you all the best.
