Hi, I noticed people were getting LOA's and I was wondering if I am dangerously late in the proccess. Due to the fact that I had to wait for my S.A.T scores until late october, I was unable to send my Nomination forms in to their respective offices. I have now completed this and I have an interview this saturday with my congresswoman. I am in the middle of the CIS app. and I am waiting for my B&G to call me back to set up an interview. Am I hazardously late? Does my highschool transcript have to be sent to the academy before my Congressional interview?

Hey don't worry, I am only applying to my MOC tomorrow/friday!!
And I've just started the CIS App

(I was planning for 2014, but was strongly encouraged to at least try now, which I had already turned over in my mind as a good idea).

So don't worry!! Some people like the people with LOAs and offers which they've accepted sent in their stuff probably before school ended last year!!
Then there's me who's pushing all deadlines (as usual )

So don't worry, you're in the middle where it's most comfortable!!

Best of luck :thumb::thumb:

Thanks for the ecouragement!
By the way, with being an official candidate, I called the day after I submitted my second S.A.T scores (I applied with previous lower scores,) and they were able to tell me my status that quickly. You might want to all them so you don't have to wait for a letter in snail mail. Best of luck to you!!!!!!

As has been stated many times, the overwhelming majority of successful candidates will never see an LOA. Yes, they typically are sent out fairly early but not receiving one doesn't mean you are doomed. Well over 80% of plebes did not get LOAs.

I am in the middle of the CIS app. and I am waiting for my B&G to call me back to set up an interview. Am I hazardously late?

No. While many candidates complete their packets in late summer/early fall, you do have until the end of Jan to finish. I've often done BGO interviews in Dec and January. I'm not suggesting that anyone intentionally put off their applications until the last minute but the fact that everything isn't in to USNA as of today is not going to doom you.

Does my highschool transcript have to be sent to the academy before my Congressional interview?

No. Two separate issues. Your MOC may want to see your scores before or during your interview. But the nomination decision is separate from the USNA decision, so not having sent your scores to USNA won't hurt you with your MOC. If for some odd reason they ask, indicate you have done it or will do it.

What happens if you don't get a nomination?

Because as I said I've only started applying, so I only have this one chance with my MOC! And I won't be in the States (so I guess no interview) until the day before she decides who gets a nom!!
So what if USNA finds me like an amazing candidate (hypothetical here!) but I dont' get a nom. What then??
Is that it?

Luigi is right - you can try again next year. Many candidates do just that.

Katie -

Many, many applicants are admitted with just one nomination. Their US Representatives. That said - finish your application assuming you will get a nomination. If for some reason you don't get a nomination admissions can still consider your application.
If there is a weakness in your application - you might be considered for NAPS. Many applicants are also considered for a Foundation prep scholarship. You don't need a nomination for either of those.
Also - the Superintendent has nominations (50) available for very very exceptional candidates.

The important thing is to follow through. If you don't get in this year, apply again next year. About 30% of each class does not come directly from high school.
