My son received his appointment, pending DODMERB clearance at the end of December. A few days later received medical DQ but in process of a waiver. In gathering the records we notice his pediatrician wasn’t great at closing out issues that resolved at a young age. It feels like the medical records don’t tell the true story. I know that sounds funny. Would anyone recommend including a personal statement? It’s hard to prove on the pharmacy/medical record that inhalers were filled but not actually used. Is the dr appointment, lung test most important? That will prove there is no current issue. Thank you for your help. It’s been such a long process and the excitement of actually receiving the appointment and so early has been overshadowed by this. Trying to be realistic, yet optimistic.

I can sympathize. I would post this to the Dodmerb thread. We are in a similar process with my son for ROTC. From What I've read they don't really consider personal statements or coaches letters etc. What might be helpful would be a letter from his physician clarifying his history, especially since age 13. Make an appointment with him to go over it face to face, or via telehealth so the correct information is included. We are waiting to see what they request for remedial, but anticipating the lung test request. It seems like that will be the most important, but anything medical you can include in addition to that certainly can't hurt. Perhaps someone else can weigh in on this, as we are rookies here too. Best wishes to your son and congratulations!

I went through a similar situation with bad medical records. A personal statement can't hurt and I myself send some explanations in with my AMI. I also had to reach out to past doctors to correct medical notes errors and schedule appointments to clear things up. I would get the lung test done and send in the personal statement.
