We are just back from DS's overnight to USMA. For any parents that may decide to accompany their cadet, you may be interested to know how easy it was to go to NYC (we went overnight, but you could easily do a day trip.) Much depends on what you want to do at USMA -- there was a tour and parent briefing that we opted out of, mostly because we had toured before and DS has his appointment in hand already -- and/or how long you're going to stay in the area. You can take the Metro North train (Hudson Line) from either Garrison or Peekskill, both just about a 20-25 minute drive from USMA, and then it's a little over an hour train ride into Grand Central Terminal. Garrison station lets you park overnight -- my understanding of Peekskill station is that you cannot. Our round trips were around $30 each. Lots of fun was had and DS loved the overnight visit.

I"m a NY native (NYC area, in between West Point and NYC) and i would be more than happy to help anyone plan a trip! I know quite a few good places.

Overnight

Glad you guys had a great time. My DD and I drove to NYC from Newburgh (tolls and parking fees were terrible, but convenience was nice). We even saw Wicked while there. When we go for A Day (if DD gets in), plan to spend a night there with wife. In living in that area 5 years, I did not appreciate and visit the City enough.

I'm heading up to West Point for my overnight visit on Wednesday- I'm looking forward to it. My parents won't be there, but I plan to pick up some information for them. Looking to be a good time

I'm also going to be headed up to West Point for my overnight without my parents (in about a week). I was wondering, how do you plan on getting and staying there? Are you reserving a room in a hotel the night before? Or a taxi cab really early in the morning?

Word of advice for an over night: don't bring too much stuff. Honestly you are only spending a day on base and I saw other candidates bringing several bags with them for the over night. All I needed was one backpack. I understand if you are going only so just don't bring too much that you can't handle! Have fun!

If anyone can, please, post an approximate schedule of how the visit went. Times and activities would be good to know about. I was just wondering what all went on during one.
